"Good hotel in Mazatlan"
Great pools & lounging areas. Big expansive property. On the water but beaches aren't really swim able. Food good. Buildings need a lot more maintenance. No wifi in rooms. Available in lobby & one Resteraunt only. A lot of querkie rules. Do not buy the meals included plan!

"Worth the extra cost"
I stayed in numerous hotels in the Mazatlan area while working in Sinaloa. The rooms ranged from $50-$120 per night depending on the hotel. While Estrella Del Mar was the most expensive, it provided the best service and had the nicest facilities barn none. The room was beautiful and clean. The bathroom was very spacious and felt luxurious. The hotel is designed so that each room is quiet but still centrally located to other amenities (beach, pool, front desk, restaurants, etc.). The free services provided were very appreciated. In addition, the internet was much better than at the other hotels I stayed at in the Mazatlan area. The staff was very professional and kind. This hotel provides much more of a isolated resort feel, and should be booked by people purposefully trying to get away from city center of Mazatlan. It's a small drive to the city, but you will have a very different experience staying at Estrella del Mar than in the city. I would reccommend this hotel for families or couples who want the calm of a resort, the services of a top notch hotel, with occasional access to Mazatlan.

"It would of been nice if..."
The hotel aesthetics are overall pleasing. They have very limited dining options and they only have one bar that closes rather early. The staff are pretty pleasant and are for the most part engaging. The rooms and hallways seem that they are in need of some remodeling. Unfortunately for me they decided to begin the remodeling process at 7 am in the room right next to mine during my vacation. When I was awoken at 7 am on a Monday morning I immediately called the front desk and inquired about the loud noises. The person from the front desk stated that that they would investigate what the noise was...they already knew but played dumb. The power tools stopped for about an hour but the hammering continued. Then at around 9 am the power tools began again...for two days straight this continued. When I complained with the front desk they were unable to refund me anything, the only thing they offered was a late check thanks. The hotel would of been nice if they were a bit more considerate to their hotel guest.

"Nice Place, Mostly Laid Back"
It was all in all a good experience. This hotel is far from any activities so bring your cab budget. It's like 100 ($7.50 USD) pesos to the Golden Zone. I found that much of Mazatlán is Spanish speaking only. My experiences in Cabo San Lucas, Puerto Vallarta, Playa Del Carmen, and Cancun had many more folks who were bilingual. Shame on me for not being but for a tourist town I'd expected a bit less trouble communicating with hotel staff. We were there for 6 nights and only had two real issues during the stay. The first was that they were replacing pool deck tiles with a hammer, chisel, and sometimes a jackhammer. This noise was unbearable, especially bright and early in the morning. A brief question to the head maintenance guy and the noise was limited to afternoon hours and stopped completely over the weekend. Gracias! The next was Sunday night when there were many local guests and everyone had a boombox and/or too much to drink making for loud voices. That quieted down about 11pm but 15m later, the Karaoke started up in the room above ours. They ran until about 3am. That was a bit tough. The final thing was that the pool could have been operated better. It was one of those 'zero edge' pools that requires water to spill over the edge to be automatically skimmed. The water level was too low so it wasn't being skimmed and after busy days there was a float of debris including body and tanning oils on the surface.
