Situated at the top of Lithia Park in Ashland and straddling Ashland Creek, this is a great place to cool off on those triple digit summer days, even though the water is fairly frigid. Just beware the reservoir is closed some years at the end of summer due to bacteria build-up. The friendly local guy in the picture was so stoked to dive in that I had to snap a picture then dive in myself.
#waterlust #WeekendGetaway Street art in Ashlands A town. Haha love this t shirt. Oregon fall colors. Ashland is probably best known for the Tony Award-winning Oregon Shakespeare Festival, which I highly recommend checking out if you're in to Shakespeare plays.
The statue in the photo is actually a guy in a Shakespearean costume collecting contributions toward a permanent statue of the Bard in Ashland.
#WeekendGetaway Named for the striking Pilot Rock near the California-Oregon border, this is a laid back, family friendly, family-owned restaurant-brewery with some #Delicious food and hand-crafted beer. I recommend their wood-fired pizza with a freshly made brew. Cool old signage. Made me chuckle. If you're ever in Ashland and feeling a little blue, walk to the plaza downtown and drink some mineral-spring water out of the Lithia Fountain. Supposedly, the naturally occurring lithium in the water can lift your spirits. I'm not sure if the low levels are really enough, and the water tastes and smells pretty nasty due to the high mineral content. Nonetheless, I recommend taking a taste to get the full Ashland experience. If nothing else, you'll be tasting a little Ashland history. In the early 1900's, there was a plan to turn Ashland into a mineral-springs based resort, a plan which eventually fizzled out. Incredible cakes!
Market of Choice, magnificent Oregon beer selection. Nice fall colors. Don't stay anywhere else! Great historic hotel in the quaint city of Ashland! Prior to the New Years flood of '97, this was a Rogue Brewery, but it was washed out in the swollen Ashland Creek, unfortunately. It's nice to see Caldera Brewery now occupies this space with a tap house. The tap house has lots of different choices, and you can find a few different styles in cans as well. Definitely some #Delicious microbrew. Road trip food!! I loved the burrito bowl (cafe inside!) and some of their grocery items. ✌️
The only downside was the trip from and back to the freeway... left, right, left, right. Way too many turns! We probably lost 20 minutes driving. I always check out the local chamber of commerce when I land in a town I haven’t been to before. Ashland Oregon Chamber of Commerce is unique in that it’s beside this amazing bronze Shakespeare statue. Beautiful brewery overlooking the Ashland valley. We found a comfy spot on the leather sofa in front of the fire and had delicious sandwiches. Their black bean burger was terrific and they have a HUGE selection of beer. Fellow Trover’s if you’ve got Ashland on your itinerary this is ‘the’ hotel to book in Ashland. It’s not only one of six hotels in Oregon on the National Trust for the Historic Preservation but in my opinion it’s the swankiest and most elegant hotel in all of Southern Oregon. Built in a hybrid neoclassical gothic style it’s like a page out of the Great Gatsby, and get this rates start at just over $100 and a European full breakfast is included. Check out my other trove for a picture of our cozy little breakfast on the 2nd floor mezzanine. It’s also literally in the middle of town and for my fellow Trover’s attending the Shakespeare festival it’s literally footsteps from the venues. I just stayed during the Christmas holiday season and did a ton of Christmas shopping (no taxes were a huge bonus). We dined in little second story pubs and restaurants that lined the square all lit up in twinkling lights and were absolutely dazzled. If Faberge made a snow globe Ashland was the backdrop and Ashland Springs Hotel was the castle! You can book your room at www.ashlandspringshotel.com and if you’re planning on attending the Shakespeare Festival which starts in mid February and runs through early November and you want to be within walking distance of all three venues this hotel is the hottest ticket in town! Looks more like a little square in Nottingham Hill than Oregon. Lovely town with festive holiday lights at night. Live music in this cozy upstairs restaurant is a delightful surprise. Two restaurants in one. Downstairs is Macaronis and upstairs is the more upscale Martino’s. Very British air. Down to the statue in the square this lovely Oregon town oozes Britain Cute little park over the creek lots of little restaurants on either side of the bridge Walked across the street from the ER and imagine this was the view from a physician parking lot Cutest little tea house in a darling very English feeling town in Oregon We had a corner queen on the 8th floor and this is a close look at the neoclassical gothic architecture from our bedroom window My absolute favorite shop in Ashland. I bought gloves with magnets on the thumbs and forefinger so you can text, and they were only $13.50 and being Oregon there’s no tax! Cool original chandelier from the original circa 1925 building We dug the ‘coconut haystack’ and English Toffee made right here in the chocolate factory This is the backside of the hotel where you park for free and enter conveniently from the 3rd floor Enjoyed getting to see a screening of Agatha Christie’s “Murder on the Orient Express in this classic old movie theater Ashland is famous for it's Shakespeare Festival but year round has a very English feel Fun shop in a darling boutique town and home to a great University Lots of adventure companies, healers and healthy living
