Superb, fantastic location and wonderful staff

Posted Sep 8, 2017
Riad Karmela is a wonderful, authentic, beautifully presented hotel. It is a fantastic location in the heart of the old city, very accessible to everything and gives you a real local feel. The food is fantastic, as is the onsite spa and massage, plus the rooftop and pools where you can sunbath as you hear the local mosques ring out throughout the day. Joel, the owner, was wonderfully accommodating and provided a local map on which to explore. It is a great and safe location for any solo traveler of any age. I would highly recommend, This was my first trip to Marrakesh and I would return to this place again and again.

Thanks a lot for all the nice comment and even regarding the location which is sometime a surprise. As we are in the center of the old city...some people expect that is the as the new city. It is still very popular and local people still live in a special manner not like in Europe but that is part of the "holiday"....thanks again Joel

Nothing was ever an issue and as two young girls travelling on our own in morocco they were very helpful. The Sahara desert tour we booked through them was amazing. 10/10

Riad Karmela

Posted Aug 27, 2017
Outstanding service alongside superb hospitality. Upon arrival we were greeted by Saeed who is one of the managers at the Riad and was given complimentary traditional Moroccan Tea. He gave us a brilliant insight to the surrounding areas and the Market place. He provided us with maps and was always at hand when needed throughout the stay. All staff were amazing and we appreciated the help We would definitely recommend this hidden treasure to family and friends and will be visiting again in the near future.

Oasis in Medina

Posted Aug 22, 2017
Riad Karmela was a calm, peaceful, relaxing riad right in the centre of the madness. It is only 5 minutes walk from Jemaa el-Fna and close to many restaurants, souks and other things to see and do in Marrakech. The staff were extremely attentive and always helpful. We undertook 2 excursions and a hammam experience all booked through reception as well as a 3 course dinner on our final night. Breakfast was a mixture of continental and Moroccan. We ordered freshly cooked fried eggs each day to put in their delicious French baguette! The riad has a beer, a few wines and spirits available, which is rare to find in Marrakech. Our room was a very good size, comfortable, cleaned daily and replenished with soap, shampoos and bottled water (the room was called 'Hasna'). On the rooftop terrace there is plenty of shade to relax in the intensely hot sun and even a jacuzzi / plunge pool hidden in the corner, which we took full advantage of. I highly recommend Riad Karmela for a first time visitor to Marrakech and to couples.

Paradise in a bustling city

Posted Jul 7, 2017
Riad Karelia was perfect. It was our first visit to Morocco, and as the taxi drive inwards to the old city .. I began to feel a little overwhelmed. The staff at riad jarmeka, welcomed us with mint tea, parties and helped us make sense of the city. It's central enough just to pop in fir a couple of hours then come back to the little bit of paradise to relax. The perfect balance!

A respite from the hubbub of the medina

Posted May 19, 2017 on Hotels
Given the location of the Riad Karmela, in the middle of the medina, it was a calm oasis, which, after a week of travel, was much appreciated. The building is old and has much charm. Our only concern was to be mindful of the many one- and two-step changes in the floor, as we moved about the riad.

hello Thank a lot for your comment. You mention that the building is old ( 1800 centrury) and also the riads have some spécifications in the old Medina such as NO windows in the street and small windows in the courtyards, many floor levels, rather narrow staircases etc but as you mention it participates to the charm of the place as well. I am glad that you have enjoyed your stay best regards Joel

Lost faith

Posted May 1, 2017
I made my reservations 3 months in advance of my trip and was so excited to stay here. I paid for one of the more expensive rooms to give us lots of space. After 38 hours of travel, my fiancé and I arrived expecting to spend 15 days in this place. We were refused entry because he was Moroccan. We were not even allowed to stay a single night to give us time to find another place to stay. We were told we had to pay to sleep in separate rooms if we wanted to be there because we were not married. It was late evening when we arrived. They said they would keep our luggage overnight and allow us to find somewhere else to stay without charge. We found an apartment to rent during the visit thanks to a kind staff member. We got the luggage the next day and were assured again there would be no charge. When I got home, $160 had been charged to my credit card for a room we never were allowed to stay in. It would have been a beautiful stay, but the overall experience left a bitter taste in my mouth. I was very glad things didn't work out because the Riad was hard to access. The apartment was in the center of town. Things worked out but it was not right to be charged for something I never received.

I am sorry to read this" story...."You made a reservation for a Junior Suite for 2 weeks and you arrived with a young Morocan men but you were not married. This is NOT legal in Morocco and I take the risk to be fined heavily for "prostitution" I do not make the laws. You have kept the room and used it for day . WE have help you you to find a appartment in the new town which is easier in your situtaion. We have been extreamly helpfull and only charged night best regards Joel

Pros: Room was amazing and really enjoyed the Moroccan dinner.
Location: Marracech was a fun, fast paced city. We enjoyed the market and experiencing a place so unique.
Staff was very knowledgeable about city and made a easy map for us to follow to main landmarks. Very relaxing at hotel after time in the city.
