Hotel needs upgrading

Posted Feb 14, 2017 on Wotif
Overall hotel stay was comfortable but hotel needs upgrading. Troubles with key cards & carpark gates not working properly. restaurant meals average. Paper thin walls, inconsistent offerings of towels etc. staff were accommodating and nice. Couldn't find wheelchair entrance for pram use

I thought the restaurant was a straight forward rip-off...dined there on the first night and once bitten twice shy. Payed $31 just for a Chicken Parmigana and some chips.

Good stay, clean, friendly staff.

Friendly staff. Clean room. Chinese people yelling around at midnight, however. Staff said they are working on that.

Backpacker-style accommodation

Posted Jan 23, 2017 on Wotif
Pros: Regrettably, nothing.
Cons: Hygiene. Room cleanliness. Housekeeping. Room noise reduction.
Crest on Barkly is well located, close to St Kilda off to the south-west and Prahran/South Yarra in the north. That's about the only positive aspect of the hotel. The building is old, rooms are exceptionally noisy, and all of the furnishing has seen better days. We stayed in a regular room with queen bed @ A$ 250 p/n. Carpets were dirty and clearly not vacuumed regularly, curtains were dirty and didn't shut properly; the bathroom had an old shower-over-bathtub setup, with plenty of grime between the bathroom tiles. Housekeeping was sloppy, despite asking for the room to be made up and towels to be changed, we found only one fresh set of towels, both sets of used towels were left on the floor, and the bathroom was not cleaned. Overall, the room was unhygienic and dirty. Upon checkout we complained to the hotel staff, but were casually dismissed. Given the average price per room per night and the lack of sanitary cleanliness of the room and bathroom, we strongly recommend avoiding Crest on Barkly. There are plenty of better (and similarly priced) places around.
