Lovely hotel, close to city

Great comfort in the room, lovely buffet breakfast, superb food from room service, food was a bit cold Sunday morning but we did go down the last hour before finishing

Excellent place to stay especially if you need to go to the Alfred hospital for appointments and you are coming in from the country

Pleasant stay

We've stayed at the Parkview a few times in the past few years on a corporate booking. It's been pleasant but not outstanding. This is not a reflection on the staff who have been universally courteous and helpful. The breakfast buffet was great and the food from the restaurant is very good. However, the hotel is getting a bit long in the tooth and needs a refresh. One lift was out of order over the weekend. Not sure how long this has been the case considering there was a temporary panel set up in front of the lift on the ground floor. Overall, fine for a short stay if you've got plenty to do as it's a good location.

I have stayed at this hotel regularly over the years but it now looking tired. I am not impressed with the need to take $5.00 from my credit card when it is presented on check in. It then sits in my account asa debit for about a week. Not a lot of money but annoying and completely unnecessary. That is not including the 1.5% surcharge for paying by card. If it was a small business I would understand. Not a lot of money but it is the principle. Also, my room was located near the elevator, suffice to say, I did not have a good night with regard to sleep. Several hotels in Melbourne are now indulging in “ add ons” . One 5star hotel which I loved charged my $50.00 extra in lieu of the fact I may use the minibar! This also sat as a debit on my card for approximately a week. I did not use this hotel again. I can afford the money but do not appreciate being rorted. I am a customer with a long legal background, not a potential thief who is going to raid the minibar or tender a dodgy credit card.

As you have mentioned, it is standard policy in all hotels to take a credit card pre-authorisation on check in from every guest for incidentals, such as mini-bar and room service. This is not charge but a credit card hold of $5, which is typically released within 24 hours of checking out. I certainly understand your frustration and apologise for any inconvenience caused. I am disappointed to read that your sleep was disturbed due to lift noise. Please do not hesitate to call down to our friendly reception desk in future, who can assist with a room move and do everything they can to assist you. Again, please accept my apologies and the Parkview team and I do hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back in the future.
