I made reservations for this hotel on Expedia, as Memphis was a good halfway point to stop on our drive. Along the way we asked people at the restaurants, gas station, etc. about the area in Memphis where the hotel was located. We were told it was a bad area and to stay in the hotel and not wander around outside. Because of the responses we were getting, my son starting researching the reviews for this hotel. Normally we would have researched it before we booked, but my son was busy with college finals and I was busy with Christmas, traveling to his graduation, and moving him out of his apartment. Needless to say, I will never book a hotel again without checking the reviews more. The hotel is old, in a bad area, and the parking area is hidden in a side alley that's not well lit. The reviews we read were horrible! People reported having things stolen out of their room, cars broken into, drug needles found in the rooms, etc. I didn't feel safe staying here, so I asked the man at the check-in counter if I had to stay there. I called Expedia and they called the hotel for me. Expedia was told that the manager had to authorize the refund and the manager wouldn't be there until the next day. I left and stayed elsewhere and called Expedia back the next day. Expedia emailed me that the manager refused to give me a refund. I'm disputing the charge with my bank now. How can they force you to stay where you're not safe? Very disappointed in Expedia!!!
