Beachcombers exploring along Glass Beach. This stretch of beach was a dumping ground from 1906 to 1967, when everything from cars to batteries to bottles, cans and appliances were unceremoniously pushed over the cliffs into the ocean — a common practice of seaside cities for centuries. Mother Nature responded to this abuse with a nice surprise in the form of smooth, colored sea glass treasure in a rainbow of colors. It is actually a misdemeanor to remove glass from the beach.
#reflections Glass Beach is a beach in MacKerricher State Park near Fort Bragg, California, that is abundant in sea glass created from years of dumping garbage into an area of coastline near the northern part of the town.
#Beachbound Glass beach - Fort Bragg.
More of a small cove than a beach, not a spectacular find a little different and quirky however. I found it to be an amusing irony if anything. In the past they decided to take the easy option and dump their rubbish and glass in the ocean, which has long since been banned. The sea and wave action has since polished all the glass and it has become a tourist attraction. Despite it not being allowed tourists flock to the location and take a few home as a souvenir to the point now where the authorities are considering adding recycled glass to keep the location viable. Nature's own recycling program in action. #blue
Breathless seeing sunset Visited Fort Bragg again and checked out Glass Beach. #springfun In the early 20th century, Fort Bragg residents threw their household garbage over cliffs owned by the Union Lumber Company onto what is now Glass Beach, discarding glass, appliances, and even vehicles.[1] Locals referred to it as Glass Beach Beautiful beach If the fog hasn't rolled
In and the clouds let it creep through you can always catch a wonderful sunset right here in the beautiful northern coast of California!! Sea Glass Beach is quite an interesting beach. Although we saw several people just enjoying the beach, it's really a place to collect pieces of sea glass (which you're not supposed to take, but no one there read the memo or the website). Wear beach shoes, for sure. But, it's quite a unique place to visit if you're in the Fort Bragg area.
#EndlessSummer #roadtrip Watching the surf of the Pacific Ocean splashing waves on to the coast of Glass Beach Interesting place Went to glass beach after spending a night in Mendocino, California.#roadtrip 🌊 water was cold but I couldn't resist a nice dip:) Coral attached to a mussel shell at Glass Beach in Ft Bragg. Walk the scenic trail and watch the water come through caves and holes. #SpringFun Highly recommended, so yummy food and great service Wonderful day in N. coast CA. I highly recommend renting a house on the coast if anyone is considering coming this way. The scenario is amazing, and I *think* I saw a whale in the ocean! Nice view of the Mendocino Bay, Mendocino County, California. Enjoying the beach Humming Bird Along the rugged coast of Fort Bragg where Glass Beach is located. #roadtrip The
