Overpriced and shabby

Posted Sep 29, 2017
We paid $180 for our room in this Hotel which is, admittedly, in a beautiful spot and were rewarded which a tiny, dark shabby room with a broken window. It was extremely stuffy as there was no air conditioning, not even a fan due to the lack of space. It wasn't practical to open the broken window because it was no more than two feet from another bedroom window - you could shake hands with the people in the other room. There was not room for two adults to manoeuvre around the room with one of them having to sit on the bed. We had looked at the hotel website which was full of pictures of elegantly furnished rooms which bore absolutely no resemblance to the squalid affair to which we were consigned. We had booked another room for our friends and whilst theirs was not great, it was bigger and more airy due to having access to a balcony. When we expressed disappointment in both the standard of our accommodation and the disparity in standards we were met with a hostile attitude from the lady on reception. She offered a derisory $10 reduction saying "we could give the room for free but then we would have no hotel". Mendocino is has some beautiful aspects but this hotel is not one of them.

The room was a closet.

The town was lovely. The room was a closet. The one hook was broken. The wardrobe was broken. The hotel had charm and was nice to look at but not my choice for sleeping.

Nice hotel conveniently located to beach/shops

Posted Sep 20, 2017
Pros: Small but efficient rooms, with a sink in it! Even tho the bathroom was down the hall, every single time I needed it, one was available. And clean!
Cons: I can't think of anything? I really enjoyed my experience.
Location: Very close to public access to walk along the Pacific Ocean's edge! And enjoy the sunset! And shopping nearby.
Awesome experience. Old school hotel with awesome view off balcony at front of building. I enjoyed sitting in the chairs at the balcony and enjoying the view! We had dinner in the Bistro downstairs at the hotel which was nice also. I was uncertain when I learned there would not be a bathroom in our room, but it was not a problem at all. the room was laid out very efficiently, even with access to the balcony to the front! And the bathroom down the hall was always clean and available, and felt secure. I really enjoyed my stay here and would come again.

Quaint hotel in a beautiful location with crabby s

Loved the hotel and location but, for the most part, staff was crabby and unengaged. Definitely not welcoming😏

Historic and Central

It's a charming old hotel in the center of Mendocino. Great location. Bathroom and shower are down the hall. It has a lovely lobby with a fireplace, bar and restaurant. Not fancy but old-world charming. I enjoyed my stay and would recommend this hotel.

Need to update

Posted Aug 28, 2017
Pros: Location was right downtown and easy walking to shop and restaurants.
Cons: As mentioned in my remarks they should hire an interior designer and get away from the Old Victorian look especially for the garden cottages.
Location: Some good restaurants and interesting shops as well as historical places to visit.
We stayed in one of the garden cottages. Room was fine but this establishment might consider updating the decor. Trying to be "old Victorian" doesn't fit the cottages. The carpets were not worn but just plain unattractive as was the bedspread. When we first entered the cottage we felt that it had all the appeal of an older dumpy motel. We were told that the cottage was ready for us but when we got there the cleaning lady was still at work. Using a STRONG cleaning fluid the whole place reeked of cleaning fluid. We complained to the front desk and they sent over a fan to help dis spell the odor. When we returned after going out for the evening it was much better but still discernible. .

Beautiful Old West Hotel

Posted Aug 27, 2017
We didn't get an ocean view room but was not disappointed. Our room had several windows all with a garden view. Very nice. Room was clean fresh paint with period furniture in mint condition. Friendly staff and great location in downtown Mendocino. Highly recommend.

Good location downtown, fair rates, historic. Expensive restaurant, older buildings. Dog friendly.

Great location right next to the se

Nice employees, rooms totally outdated and small. Feet hanging off the bed and I am only 5'11". Sharing a bathroom I get atleast provide slippers to walk the halls. No tv in room. Some people need noise to fall asleep to.

Thank you for choosing the Mendocino Hotel. We do have other room types that would have had a larger bed and private bath in the main hotel and the garden suites. All of the garden suite rooms have televisions and either a King bed or a room with 2 double beds. You might have asked about upgrading to another room. We do not want you to be uncomfortable during your time in Mendocino. The European style rooms are the most economical rooms that we do have.
