Good value

Posted Dec 1, 2017
A nice, clean, comfortable hotel a few blocks from the grand plaza. The common areas are open and spacious, and there is a very nice pool (tucked away in the back of the property). The staff are friendly and helpful. We had a spacious room with two beds, and a very spacious bathroom with a walk in shower. the only negative is that everything feels a bit dark— I think the decor needs a bit of updating and brightening. We had a room with a window looking out onto a passageway (so we kept it and the curtains closed). On the opposite wall there was a highly placed, sealed frosted window that let in some natural light. This arrangement though made the room feel a bit dark and stuffy. This was not a major problem though, considering the very low rate we paid (through Expedia), and we were only staying one night in Mérida. You certainly can pay a bit more and find something with more charm, but I would recommend Hotel Der Gobernador to anyone as a good value.

Old, musty. Will not go back

Posted Jul 9, 2017
Pros: Location - somewhat
Cons: EVERYTHING
The hotel is old and has not been renovated in several decades. Rooms are noisy, doors creaky and badly adjusted, pillows disgraceful. Air conditioning - let´s not go there. Simply to say that it feels like you are in a helicopter because of the noise, with zero advantages. The girls at reception have no idea of anything. If you ask for recommendations for restaurants they will not give them for "fear of disappointing". There is no elevator and they gave us a room in the 3rd floor. The curtains barely cover the window and do not darken the room one bit. You can hear people walking and talking outside your room all the time.Terrible experience. Will not come back

Get what you paid for

The overall facility was okay - definitely been around a while. The beds are very uncomfortable and the eager pressure is super low.

Clean, Mostly Comfortable, Dreary Retirement Home

Posted Apr 8, 2017
This is a 3 star, centrally located hotel. While the rooms are exceedingly clean, the interiors of the rooms are in desperate need of an upgrade. It's like an overnight stay at a retirement home or your elderly Aunt Hazel's house. My room was a dreary sight of pale yellow & drab green paint along with a catalogue of bad art. For some reason, the whole place just feels a little dark, even the lobby. Also, I prefer my sink in the bathroom. But that's just me. Overall, for the money, it's not a bad deal. It is very clean & mostly functional minus any sense of beauty or romance. The best asset, is the restaurant across the street - La Prospe del Xtup. The food is there is divine! Also, the internet works. Please note, this is not a bad review. This hotel is clean, safe & the staff is very polite. The rooms are just very outdated. But the location is stellar!

great for the money

Posted Feb 22, 2017 on Orbitz
Pros: The staff. The beds. The convenient location. The cleanliness. The water presssure in the shower.
Cons: Nothing.
Location: Shop, eat, museums, art. Good architecture.
The hotel is close to town, clean, and has comfortable beds. It's great for the price. We stayed in room 226 and it was quiet. The nicer rooms overlook the street and I think they might be noisy. There's tile in the halls and rooms so you can hear people rolling their luggage as they go by. I'd rather hear that than have carpeting. The pool area is nice. It's not a luxury hotel but I didn't pay for luxury. I paid for safety, comfort, and convenience. And I got my money's worth.
