Overall aesthetically pleasing, but the grout and edges in the room needed a good, deep cleaning.

worst hotel ever stayed at

Posted Mar 30, 2017
Pros: The garden is very photogenic. Drop by for photos and a coffee. Nothing more.
Cons: Everything. Start with the attitude and train the staff how to clean and clean with bleach. And paint the walls. Looks disgusting with skid marks.
Location: in the center of centro historico.
The pictures are nice, and flatters the hotel grounds. The rooms however are dirty, dirt stains on the walls, full of mosquitoes, and the bathroom walls and vanity area black-moldy. And if you look at the toilet bowl from an angle you will see that it wasnt really cleaned at all. The first room i was in had hair on the sheets, and no hot water. I complained and the male staff at the desk had such a bad attitude and was so rude that I almost just checked out - except i paid in advance - it was for one night and late, so i didnt bother. the second room was better with good hot water pressure but dirty walls. This hotel has nothing going for it except for a nice looking garden. location is good, but do yourself a favour and avoid the hotels in the historic center but get one on paseo montejo or go to hacienda misne. This is one of the worst hotels ever in mexico. And no English programs, high rate for bad rooms, and the AC will keep you up the whole night.

Historic hotel close to Central Merida

Posted Mar 20, 2017
Pros: We loved the courtyard, the small but inviting and rather chilly pool, room, staff, the location is quiet inside and centrally located for walking.
Cons: A mini fridge or ice bucket would be nice so you could bring back beer or wine to drink in the evening. Hammocks in the central areas of each floor.
Location: Easy walking distance to Domingo in Merida, the Olimpa, Santa Lucia Park, all of which have music and events every evening. Close to great eating.
From the moment we walked through the expansive wooden doorway into the small, yet lovely courtyard with a fountain, we felt this would be a quaint and lovely place to stay. Check in was fast and "Eddie" helped us and carried out bags up to the third floor. He then showed us how the AC worked, ceiling fan, master power switch, lights and the safe. Sadly, we were tired and didn't pay as close attention as need regarding the safe, and after thinking we'd set the lock properly, couldn't get it open. Back downstairs to find "Eddie". He came back to our room for a second "lesson" on safe "safekeeping" and then we had it down pat. He spoke some English and I speak more Spanish, so we had great "visits" throughout our week here. Jorge from the dining/bar staff was always on top of things. Our two bed, room was adequate in size, had all the needed toiletries, a table and chair. Hot water in the shower every day. And we were too late for the welcome drink but had it the next day. We were pointed in the direction towards restaurants and found a tasty Italian pizza and pasta place for a very reasonable price with attentive young workers. Every day La Mision staff greeted us and were friendly. I would recommend you brush up on your Spanish, however, because few staff speak English or other languages, and that could lead to frustration on your part. We enjoyed the breakfasts, their bar prices were reasonable and I'd definitely go back. It's two blocks from the main square and Cathedral.

Great location, superior staff

Loved it overall. Such fun being with people from all over, as many Europeans were staying there. The food is excellent at their restaurant. My only negative would be that the water in the shower was not all that hot.

Atmospheric and central hotel with lots of character. A bit shabby in places but overall good value for such a good location.

Wonderful, welcoming Hotel in excellent location

Posted Mar 5, 2017
I enjoyed my stay at La Mision very much. The room was clean and comfortable and the hotel lobby was beautiful and very welcoming. The staff were all friendly and helpful and very forgiving of my terrible attempts at Spanish. The hotel is located very conveniently to the center of town were the weekly Sunday craft market occurs with all of its attractions. There are museums, restaurants, shops and wonderful sights within easy walking distance. Most notable is the Cathedral, as well as several other ancient ecclesiastical buildings. In addition to the easy walking is the availability of bus transportation. I plan to make better use of this on my next visit to Merida and La Mision. Merida is a very safe city to visit and the central area seems like a perfect fit for young families to visit as well as other tourists interested in a glimpse of a vibrant local culture.

loud at night and bad coffee

Receptionist had tv blaring all night. Other quests fighting in pool area not appreciated. Staff not helpful in this regard ( fine with other matters though). Location great but can do better for price.

Delightful oasis of calm, beautiful historic hotel. Highly recommend. Slightly shabby but overall wonderful. Kind and helpful staff, great restaurant. Two blocks to main plaza, but internal garden was lovely.
