The Good, The Bad & The Disappointing....

Posted Mar 29, 2017
Pros: The Good: Location The Bad: It STINKS The Disappointing: Noise On the other hand, this hotel did have good wifi. Kings sized bed was comfortable.
Cons: The smell, the plumbing, along with general housekeeping. Again, the building is nice or once was. It's sad to see it fall into such disarray.
Location: Again, the location is stellar but the downside, is the noise. You can walk to every place. This was the 4th hotel I have stayed in Merida & the worst
First, I did not book this hotel of my own accord. But rather, I took a gamble with a "mystery 4 Star boutique" hotel at a special price of $40 US a night & this was the non-refundable results of the gamble. Okay, by my own estimate, it was certainly $15 too much to pay for such accommodations. This is not a 4 Star hotel. It is a 2.3 Star hotel at best. Actually, it was probably a grand hotel at some point in history. There are 18ft high ceiling, beautiful wood doors & a lovely courtyard. Sadly, the property has been poorly maintained & it is extremely evident that the owners, have made only a minimum investment in upkeep and unskilled labor. There is a proliferation of cracked tiles & tortured spackle in the halls & the rooms. THE BATHROOMS DO STINK & THERE IS A HORRIBLE STENCH OF SEWAGE as the pipes evidently, lack the necessary flap to prevent such from happening, FUNKY FUMES emanate from the shower. This prevented me from using the shower as even the time required to brush my teeth, was nearly unbearable. Also, the toilet was broken and... well, it was gross! Both the air conditioner & the ceiling fans are too high to make any impact. There was a small terrace that faced the noisy street. But this too offered little relief. Checkout time couldn't come soon enough as I was happy to escape the stench come morning. My room had a small terrace faced the busy street, which was also a source of noise. No desk or outlets in the room. Had to charge devices in the yucky bathroom!

Serviceable.

It's ok for the price. It looks more impressive than it is. Having an in house currency exchange was very useful. Small rooms with smelly sewage. Area is safe but rooms didn't feel fully secure.

Nice hotel close to the cathedral

Posted Mar 2, 2017
Very nice hotel although my room with the king sized bed was very small and had no window which made it feel claustrophobic. You could open a door that led to a balcony but not while th AC was on. The bathroom weirdly didn't have any tiles and felt very unfinished. On the positive side, the staff was lovely, the linen was soft and clean, the bed and pillows were very comfortable, and the location was excellent.

Disappointed

Posted Mar 1, 2017
Pros: Very nice setting. Staff were wonderful.
Cons: Pillows' Smell
Location: Location could not be better.
Excellent staff. Bed beyond firm; my back and hips hurt when I woke and that has never happened. I am 5'2" and my feet were at the very end of the bed. Pillows very tough-do "give" at all. Bad smell in room and bathroom although it goes when air conditioning is on. Too bad - I was excited but checked out early. I did not want to sleep there another night.

Our room on the third floor had NO window. The tile floor was loose with cracked tiles. No closet. No hot water. No ceiling fan. Open space, halls stairway, junk filled. The place needs major clean up. Just for safety.

Historic building very centrally located.

We liked being within walking distance of so many cultural happenings and great places to eat! People on the streets were very helpful and friendly, but we didn't like having to pass by so many beggars on our travels...
