There was a dirty towel left in the shower. Jacuzzi was out of order. Television didn’t work in the room and nobody came to fix it until about midnight

Hot tub wasn’t working and there wasn’t a continental breakfast so would call before staying if those are perks you are looking for. Staff were super friendly and the room was clean though.

It was in a rundown area. The doors locked at 6pm with a security officer monitoring the facility. Yes I felt safe with him present but unsafe with the fact that they needed that kind of protection. Lots of long term renters. Animals and smoker. The carpet in our room was dirty and sticky. The health department closed down the hot tub and the pool was dirty.

Good place to stay for work travel
Work trip- easy and quick check in. Mostly friendly staff at the desk- always saying hi- some did not. Which all it takes is a 10 second conversation for us people that travel for work to make our day. Food was the same daily for breakfast all week. Nice room- could have used a deeper cleaning, but, was spacious, and felt a little more “like home” .

When we checked in the room they gave us had wet carpet and almost slipped on the tiled floor part. Then they gave us another room the was being cleaned not ready. The staff was unprofessional and there was trash in the stairwell. I think I should be compensated for the first night for we missed a non refundable meeting with the room switch that caused me to be too late to attend. Thank you

We do not travel very often. So when we do, we like a nice place to stay. The Residence Inn By Marriott here in Merrillville is the best choice we have ever made when it comes to hotels. We loved our room and I loved the outdoor patio that was close so I could sit outside. Every staff member was amazing…knowledgeable, friendly and easy to talk to. The breakfast was just what is should be, many choices and very tasty. I know I won’t remember everybody’s name. We were there M,T, and W Sept 18th, 19, and 20th. I believe Antwone check us in, very nice. Both of the cooks were very friendly. And so was Reggie! Oh yes, the carpet cleaning company team was also very sweet. The 2nd floor(?)smelled awesome when they were done. All and all I give our stay with you a10 plus!!!!

Stay was fine. Hotel was pretty clean. Andrew at the front desk was very attentive to our requests. Guests were nice; we couldn't hear them in our room. A few things I'd like to see improved: * AC was loud in the bedroom and at least 2 nights (of our 4 night stay) I had to turn it off in order to sleep * You can't control the AC/ Heat in the gym and it was fairly warm upon entry - which made for a really heated work out

The reception at the desk was warm and gracious. My sisters and I were impressed with the friendly atmosphere at this accommodation. I would definitely stay at Marriott.

The Pool and Hot tub where closed said, it would be 6 months because they are waiting on parts this wasnt disclosed on the wensite also the rooms smelled of mole we had to have the wikdow open and this is a picturce of the ceiling it was absolutely disgusting still wating on refund from the manager havent seen anything yet

Desiree and other staff we encountered were excellent. The computer system was down and they were unable to check people in. They also lost their manager suddenly and were all working very hard to make sure all customers were cared for despite the major challenges. They were able to coordinate with other hotels in the area to accommodate guests they were unable to check in and they offered my very hungry and tired children a drink and snack during our wait. They ended up being able to get us into our originally booked room and they provided enough towels and blankets for us to all get showered and comfortable after a very long day of traveling and hiking. We were disappointed the pool and hot tub were not open since that was a big reason we booked this property for the kids, but the staff and room made this a pleasant stay despite that. I would definitely stay in this hotel again and this experience gave me confidence that Marriott is committed to making things right.

It was a decent place overall. Conveniently near shopping and not too far from Chicago. Used the small kitchenette for breakfast than the complimentary breakast. Has a small pool by the front desk and laundry on 2nd floor. It costs like $3 in quarters to wash and dry a load of laundry. There’s a fire pit outside that is neat. The staff were friendly and willing to assist whenever I needed help.

Had to go to the desk to request more towels (1 washcloth and towel per person for a 5 day stay?!), but they handed me plenty. Breakfast not really well stocked-always out of cups and coffee and weekday assortment is limited. Otherwise, clean and comfortable.

I was astonished by their lack of customer service skills. This was my first time at a Marriott and it will be my last. I booked and paid for a room and they gave it to another guest that wanted to stay another night because “he was a platinum member”. I was lucky to find a Hilton a few towns over to stay in last minute. The manager Denise actually left right after giving my room away and told the new girl, she had only been there four days, to take care of it basically. She obviously had no idea what to do because she had just started her very first ever hotel job 3 days prior. Complete lack of training, she was however very polite and also admitted this was a terrible error. Horrible inconvenience. When I called back for a refund when the manager, Denise, returned the following day, she was angry I did not stay in a downgraded room ( that would not have accommodated enough room for myself and children. She did not want to provide a refund and was VERY rude. I will never recommend a Marriott hotel. Especially this specific one. If you can, just stay away from Marriott all together.

I am sorry we could not provide you with the one bedroom suite you had booked, however a studio suite has the same amount of space, actually more and would have been plenty of room for you and your children. The overbooking was not caused by a Platinum member but rather an extended stay guest who had to extended even further aned considered a resident at this point in time. A refund could not ge provided from the hotel since you had booked through a third party. Therefore the refund had to come from them.

I liked that it was close to everything. I did not like that the room was so outdated and old looking. We had no hot water in our shower for our entire stay, it was at best lukewarm. But the worst was found out after we left, as my son developed Hot tub folliculitis from their hot tub. So gross…… We took him to the doctor and they confirmed it. He was prescribed topical cream and antibiotics and said it should clear up within 2 weeks. This will be our last stay at a residence inn.

There seemed to be one staff on duty when I checked as I waited at the front desk for quite a while. There was no toilet paper in the lobby bathrooms or towels at the pool, though it was prime time hours on a Saturday. The chemicals were so strong in the pool/hot tub my children had upper respiratory issues and we couldn't even use them. I knew better to complain because there was no one at the desk to tell. We got up the next morning without eating breakfast and checked out. Definitely not worth the price.
