The building is cleverly appropriated for use as a hotel. There is a coffee grinder and whole beans in the room, besides some crockery and cutlery and cooking implements. Good shower, good water pressure. Good king bed, and there is good lighting as well. Great, stupendous breakfast arrangement with the Tea Connection - a highly successful restaurant three buildings away. But the greatest thing here is the location: hard to beat it if you want to be within shady walking distance of an embarrassingly large amount of restaurants and cafes of just about every description. Mexico should declare Av. Amsterdam a national treasure.
For Mexico, the hotel was kind of informal, which I enjoyed. They get things done, but it feels sometimes more like a hostel. Cleaning and everything was great.
Negatives: it really is noisy, be prepared. There is a restaurant below and they slam things around when they close (somebody tell them to oil their awnings). The street musicians which repeatedly accost the more successful restaurants are attracted like moths to the block the hotel is on. Not necessarily a negative though, is it?
Besides the noise, there is nothing in the way of comfortable seating, at least not with the room we had - there's no space in the entrance and no couches or chairs in the room. Could wish they provided somewhere a kind of lounge, even if only an outdoor one in a patio or on the roof of the building.
