Our room was very clean, and I was pleased to see that, although this is an older motel, the bathroom fixtures are modern. The location is good if one has a car. Sadly the speed of the free internet was so slow as to be unuseable for anything other than email.

Okay if you don't need a phone or a hair dryer.

Pros: Cheap and close to causeway
The guy upstairs rocking in his bed sounded like a marching army.

Dear DM, thank you for staying at the Shalimar. we have hair dryer on request. it is a budget rate motel, Unfurtintly hair dryer were disappearing from the rooms. in our days people use their cel. Ph. the Ph. in the rooms were not used. To our regrets, some guest have no curtesy to other traveler at the Motel. when Front desk staff informed of noise from floor above, we take care of it immediately. by changing rooms or dismiss guest off their rooms. we keep the rooms, facility and our services very clean and punctual. Hope to see you back on your future travel to Miami with request to be on 2nd. fl. Thank you again, from all the staff at the Shalimar

Clean rooms for a motel

Just be sure to let them know you want to put down cash deposit if you don't want your card charged, because they won't tell you until it's done.

Basic room, hospitable staff

Posted Dec 11, 2017
It fit our needs for a local place to sleep during Art Basel weekend. Very basic room, bed was uncomfortable but there was a closet & hangers. Gentlemen working front desk was very hospitable as was woman managing breakfast.

No tissues or hair dryer. For $110, this motel is not worth the money. Breakfast mediocre.

Convenient location with exactly what you need

Posted Nov 29, 2017
Pros: Available parking is a big plus, along with ease of access to Starbucks..And, the supermarket is a few blocks away. Water is hot w/ pressure!
Cons: I think the minimalistic approach is fine the way it is.
Location: Starbucks one minute away. Design District stores 9 minutes away. Miami Beach 20 minutes away. Arena 15 minutes away. Airport 25 minutes away.
From the moment of arrival, the experience was smooth. I was greeted by Christian, at the front office, who clearly explained to me what charges to expect, the required deposit and how the deposit would be returned. He described all that was offered here, including shared microwave and vending outside... plus the free breakfast in the morning. The room is spacious and very clean. The bed is comfortable... not luxury, but you'll definitely have no trouble sleeping. There are plenty of towels, a small fridge for refreshments, a safe to lock up valuables and places stow and hang clothing. The flat screen tv is just the right size and the wifi connection is strong with reasonably acceptable download speeds. Air conditioner is well kept and functions quietly enough to sleep with it on. Parking is plentiful and area secure with close caption tv monitoring system - you can see the screen behind the front office desk. There is outside seating for getting some fresh air and there is also clean ashtrays outside for those would want to indulge in a smoke. All in all, this hotel has met and somewhat exceeding my expectations for the price so close to downtown, the historic area and the design district.

Really disappointed...

Posted Nov 9, 2017
Cons: Don't try to get more money out of your guest with poor excuses...
Location: Not a very safe location.
The check in and all was positive, but since I had a large van, that I travel all over the country with, they made me park on the back of the property. Everything was fine until I got woken by one of the staff, telling me the manager was going to have my Van towed... unbelievable... No cars on the parking lot, but mine... And this lady was trying to make some extra bucks by towing my car that was parked where the staff from the night before instructed me. Made me feel like I was in a 4th class business establishment. Overall, before that, I would have recommend the place, but the attitude and the lack of flexibility on this situation, makes me never want to go back there.
