Not up to Kimpton standards...

Posted Jul 5, 2017
Pros: Location, location, location...Backs onto the beach & just a block walk to the famous Lincoln Road Mall.
Cons: It was almost as though guests paying to stay at the Surfcomber were a nuisance to the hotel, because of their big "private pool party event".
Location: Location, location, location...Backs onto the beach & just a block walk to the famous Lincoln Road Mall.
I stayed 5 nights at the Surfcomber from June 29 to July 4, 2017. My room was on the 3rd floor and, although a little small, nevertheless adequate and in keeping with the older Art Deco style of the Surfcomber. Other than the very noisy air conditioning system in my room, I did not have any issues with noise. Room linens & towels were of good quality and the bed comfortable. Although I did not have many dealings with the staff, those I did deal with were pleasant and professional. The check-in went smoothly and the front desk clerk was a pleasure to deal with. The physical location of the Surfcomber is outstanding for South Beach, walking distance to everything. However, I'm disappointed to report that my stay was not all that I've come to expect from Kimpton properties: (1) Upon check-in, I went to my room. When I went to use the washroom facilities, upon opening the toilet bowl lid, I was met with the sight of a previous guest's "number 2" in the toilet bowl. Needless to say, I was less than impressed. (2) The pool was closed all day Saturday and Sunday for "private pool party". (3) Power outage on July 3 that lasted until the afternoon of July 4. No back up power generator for the hotel, so it was a sweltering mess in the Florida heat & humidity. I have never given a score as low as 3 out of 5 to a Kimpton hotel before. Minus the toilet episode, the two-day pool closure, and the power loss (with no back up generator), the Surfcomber could have qualified for a 5.

Dear David, I am SO sorry about the toilet issue you had at check-in, and we are less than impressed to hear about it as well! Regarding the pool party, we did do our best to contact all guests beforehand with the contact information we had to let everyone know what's going on before you get to South Beach concerning the party and all that entails. I'm sorry if there was miscommunication on our party about this party. Lastly, we did lose power along with 12 other hotels in South Beach for a pretty good chunk of time on July 4th, which was the first time many of us had a power outage at this property. I'm glad to hear that everything else with your stay went well and we hope that you make it back to SoBe soon! Until then, safe travels!

Pros: Pool and the staff.
Cons: There is nothing that come up to my mind I really love this Hotel :)
Location: Location is great, close to the stores, Pharmacies, stores and best part by the beach.
It was a great experience staying at the Kimpton, the staff are amazing, love the pool and the happy hrs, Restaurant was really good, and the service at the beach is honestly the best, will definitely comeback.

Best Experience Ever

Posted Jun 2, 2017
I've travelled a lot in my life, but I have to say that our stay here was hands down the best experience I ever has when it comes to hotels. Perfect location, great room, amazing amenities and extremely lovely staff. We had a blast and I highly recommend this place to anyone!

Beware of all hotel charges!

Posted May 27, 2017
Pros: The staff was great.
Cons: Add blackout curtains in rooms.
Location: There is a shopping mall within walking distance.
$76 per day of additional charges for staying at the hotel. There is a resort fee ($30) and the hotel parking your vehicle at a offsite location ($46) (which is the only option). While the resort fee gives you two lounges with towels on the beach it does not include a parasol ($19). No soda or snack machines in hotel. Each room has a box of overpriced snacks and a packed refrigerator. Example: Oversized Snickers bar for either $8 or $9. Refrigerator is full of stuff at triple normal prices so there is limited space for use. No blackout curtains so you wake up with the sun. In the last two months I have stayed in five hotels. This was the only hotel without blackout curtains. While breakfast in the hotel was ok it was $20 per person. Alcoholic drinks by the pool are over $15. Due to the location you are limited in your restaurant options for how much to spend on food. This may be normal for South Miami Beach so expect to spend money for extras.

Hi David, Thank you so much for sending us your feedback! I am glad to hear that our team was great, but I am sorry to hear that the pricing was a bit high. We always keep an eye out for our pricing so we are still competitive with the other hotels on the beach, but I'm sorry if it seemed high. Hopefully we see you back in SoBe soon!

Very nice retreat

Posted May 18, 2017 on Hotels
I am an anesthesia provider and just worked a bone crushingly long week. I came here to unwind for two days and detox from the stress of all that work and the fast pace of DC. From my first check in it was easy peasy and so much fun. My check in was 5 min MAX, I dropped my bag off in my room and hit the gorgeous beach. When I got to the beach I was met by a nice dude named valero who got me arranged with a beach chair and made respectful and polite conversation which was nice since I didnt really talk to anyone else on the rest of the trip. I was then greeted by a super cute girl who was also very polite for food and beverage. She made a great drink recommendation and my food was great. Beautiful day, ZERO complaints. I did drop my phone in the ocean though.. super sweet. So that broke. The front desk guy (a young tall dude) was really nice and wrote down the address for the nearest verizon store and called a taxi for me. It was a great experience and the price was well worth the stay.
