Good

Posted Jul 20, 2017
Pros: The food was good and tasting.
Cons: The hallway is to dark. The price of food was too high.
Location: I took the trolley and went around the city, went to the botanical garden, Romero Britto exhibition and store, shopping on Lincoln Road etc.
The hotel is clean ambiance is good. I did not like that the hotel added a $34.00 per day per room. I did not use the bicycles, the launch chairs at the beach or the towels and I was charged for that. It was a surprise at check out. I thought that they took my credit card just in case something happen but it was not like that I was charged for the few amenities.

Hi Fabluja! Sorry about the surprise on the resort fee. We do try very hard to make sure that everyone knows about this prior to arrival, but unfortunately we don't have direct control over third-party confirmation formatting. I'm glad you liked the food and the ambiance!

housekeeping was not greatest

Posted Jul 20, 2017
Housekeeping did come like I thought when we left out I expected fresh towels. The next night they removed all the towels and no fresh ones left I had to call for wash cloths I Also I was shocked about the 450 hold on my card that one told even after I asked about additional charges. I was told only a 35 dollars per day I was only there for 3 days . They need to be clear with the hidden cost

I'm so sorry about the housekeeping service! This isn't typical and I'm addressing it with our housekeeping team. Towels are a must at the beach! We do authorize a credit card upon check-in for $150/day as a guarantee for incidentals. Though the amount varies, this is a typical practice in most hotels of similar caliber. I do hope the rest of your stay was wonderful!

Hotel in a great location.

Posted Jul 20, 2017
The hotel was in a great location. Convenient access to the beach and restaurants. The staff were fabulous. Camilla at the front desk was friendly, professional, and very helpful. Carolina who was always ready to accommodate myself or my children at the pool. She was very nice and friendly. I loved my stay at the Kimpton Surfcomber. If I return to Miami I will reserve my room at the Kimpton.

Solid value on South Beach

Posted Jul 10, 2017
This was our first time staying on South Beach and we had looked at more expensive options, but with another trip coming up, we decided on the Surfcomber to try and vacation on a budget (for South Beach). We can report the hotel was first-rate in almost every regard. It's right on the beach, the restaurant is very good, and the pool area is also fairly nice. In this price range you could hardly expect much more than the Surfcomber delivered. If there was one complaint, it's that the level of service from the staff was inconsistent. Andres, the beach attendant and Andre, the bellman, were both terrific. We had a few interactions with each of them and I can say that any business would be lucky to have these two guys. However, we did experience a couple of employees who, while not overtly rude, were a little unpleasant. I won't single them out, since we all have bad days, but that is the kind of thing that colors a person's experience at a hotel. The only other thing I would mention is that when we arrived, we were very pleased we had been upgraded to an "ocean view" room. While you can see the ocean from the window, that description is optimistic. The room was very nice though and we were grateful. What we didn't know is that there are parties in he pool area of the hotel or an adjacent hotel every night and the music is hammering into the wee hours. Forget watching TV in the evening. Overall, it was another great experience with a Kimpton hotel. We would stay again.

Thank you SO much for your feedback Jason. I am so glad to hear that Andres squared was amazing, we sure do think so ourselves :) But I am definitely sad to hear that our full team wasn't as consistent. If there is anything specific you think we should know about, please let us know! We hope to see you back at the Surf soon and until then, safe travels

Pros: CLOSE TO CITYCENTER AND BEACH. STAFFS ARE GOOD
Cons: MUST HAVE GENERATOR.
Location: BEACH AND SHOPPING
BEDS ARE SO SMALL TO SLEEP. NO GENERATOR FOR THE LACK OF ELECTRICITY.

Thank you SO much for sending us your feedback :) I know that this was a tough week, and the lack of generator was definitely a struggle (this power outage is the first time for us) but I am glad that you enjoyed your stay. We hope to see you back soon and until then, safe travels!

Kimpton Improvements to Surfcomber

Posted Jul 6, 2017
Pros: The outstanding staff!
Cons: The cleanliness of the alley courtyard
Location: Everything is in walking distance; my sister's place, the beach, the Italian Bakery, terrific food choices, Lincoln Road, theatre, music, fresh air!
We had stayed at the Surfcomber before Kimpton bought it. Over the past few years, Kimpton has made many great improvements and set standards close to some of their other hotels. One of the hallmarks of a Kimpton property is their staff team; and now they are terrific here! The renovated lobby is another quality highlight of Kimpton Hotels; that too was a very welcome change. Room design is a third nice quality of Kimpton; and again, such improvements! If there is an area that could still use some improvement at the Surfcomber, it is the "alley courtyard"; it just does not seem as meticulously kept as other Kimpton properties. The location and setting are perfect, within walking distance to anything in South Beach and the pool and beach itself are wonderful. The pool area was unusually hectic on the days we were there, but the attendants were wonderful! And, THANKS to the entire staff, from the front desk, to room, food, and pool service, we were always welcomed. We have enjoyed our Kimpton stays in Seattle, Chicago, and Alexandria. It is always fun to see Kimpton open a new hotel in a trendy downtown area. It is one of the things we like best about their "brand". I think there were renovation and staffing challenges to this location different from some of their other locations. And, Kimpton has worked hard to bring this hotel to its regional standards.

I love the Surfcomber! My second time staying there. One suggestion I would make is that the hotel coordinate better with the security they hire for parties. I found them to be rude towards the hotel guests and not accommodating at all. I was told I couldn't bring a small purse into the pool area yet many other woman had theirs. Overall I would still recommend this place and plan to return.

Not up to Kimpton standards...

Posted Jul 5, 2017
Pros: Location, location, location...Backs onto the beach & just a block walk to the famous Lincoln Road Mall.
Cons: It was almost as though guests paying to stay at the Surfcomber were a nuisance to the hotel, because of their big "private pool party event".
Location: Location, location, location...Backs onto the beach & just a block walk to the famous Lincoln Road Mall.
I stayed 5 nights at the Surfcomber from June 29 to July 4, 2017. My room was on the 3rd floor and, although a little small, nevertheless adequate and in keeping with the older Art Deco style of the Surfcomber. Other than the very noisy air conditioning system in my room, I did not have any issues with noise. Room linens & towels were of good quality and the bed comfortable. Although I did not have many dealings with the staff, those I did deal with were pleasant and professional. The check-in went smoothly and the front desk clerk was a pleasure to deal with. The physical location of the Surfcomber is outstanding for South Beach, walking distance to everything. However, I'm disappointed to report that my stay was not all that I've come to expect from Kimpton properties: (1) Upon check-in, I went to my room. When I went to use the washroom facilities, upon opening the toilet bowl lid, I was met with the sight of a previous guest's "number 2" in the toilet bowl. Needless to say, I was less than impressed. (2) The pool was closed all day Saturday and Sunday for "private pool party". (3) Power outage on July 3 that lasted until the afternoon of July 4. No back up power generator for the hotel, so it was a sweltering mess in the Florida heat & humidity. I have never given a score as low as 3 out of 5 to a Kimpton hotel before. Minus the toilet episode, the two-day pool closure, and the power loss (with no back up generator), the Surfcomber could have qualified for a 5.

Dear David, I am SO sorry about the toilet issue you had at check-in, and we are less than impressed to hear about it as well! Regarding the pool party, we did do our best to contact all guests beforehand with the contact information we had to let everyone know what's going on before you get to South Beach concerning the party and all that entails. I'm sorry if there was miscommunication on our party about this party. Lastly, we did lose power along with 12 other hotels in South Beach for a pretty good chunk of time on July 4th, which was the first time many of us had a power outage at this property. I'm glad to hear that everything else with your stay went well and we hope that you make it back to SoBe soon! Until then, safe travels!
