Small hotel tucked into a busy Miami street. Hard to find initially. But don't let the exterior and old elevator deter you away. It's a beautiful small hotel with a very modern and clean look. The staff was very friendly and helpful. I would definitely stay here again!

Different but nice

Posted Aug 15, 2016
It's different from what we see in California, but it was nice. Close to the beach. They provide towels and chairs if you like. Would definitely return.

A true gem in SOBE!

Posted Aug 2, 2016 on Hotels
My wife and I stayed at Ithaca for three nights and were pleasantly surprised. After having stayed in many of the local boutique hotels in SOBE, we found the Ithaca to be a standout among the crowd, and wish we had found it sooner. The rooms were beautiful, clean, and best of all, the staff was amazing! The location was close to all, yet far enough away from Ocean Drive that you can actually sleep. Please do not let the odd entrance put you off when you arrive. This historic location was once a bank, hence the configuration. It has a staircase on left, the lobby is actually on the second floor. There is a dumbwaiter to the right of stairs for luggage only. Complimentary champagne, continental breakfast, and the terrific staff will help make your stay enjoyable. Beach umbrellas, chairs, and towels are also available to guests at no charge. Beach is a very short walk away. This will be our regular hotel whenever we visit SOBE. Many other first time guests we met there said the same. Give it a try. You will not be disapointed. Sal and Robin

Lovely boutique hotel

A gem of a hotel in a very busy town. The extra facilities included beach umbrellas and chairs which will save you a lot of money as to hire them on the beach is very expensive. The cheese and wine is a lovely touch for hotel guests. I would highly recommend.

If you stay in a nice hotel like Ithaca this is one thing, if on top of that you have very good staff, that makes your stay even better. A big thank to Brian, Luis and Agatha who were very good with us. They made our stay a very good stay.

Not Handicap Friendly

Posted Jan 19, 2016
Pros: The contemporary furnishings and closeness to beach
Cons: An elevator for guests and a bigger lobby.
Location: Beach, shopping and dining
The hotel was very difficult to find. No signs, so we circled the block several times and ended up calling to find that it was located on the second floor of a building with a convenience/souvenir shop on the street level. The hotel is accessed up a long steep flight of stairs and the only elevator is tiny and for luggage only. The lobby is the size of a bathroom and very cramped. There is no front desk, just a tiny office room off the lobby. The continental breakfast and evening reception are held in the tiny cramped !obby and there are only a couple of places to sit, so you are forced to stand in the hallway or take your food back to your room. Staff members are loading and unloading luggage from the little luggage elevator right in front of where the food is being served, which doesn't seem very sanitary. The room was very nice and the furnishings contemporary but I was not fond of the cowskin hide rug on the floor because I don't think it could be adequately cleaned between guests. The view from our room's 3 windows was of the alley and buildings next door, so it was very disappointing for a hotel that was so expensive. Nowhere in the description of the hotel when we booked it did it say that this was a boutique hotel, so it was not what we expected and we would not have booked it had we known this. The information in the booking also did not mention anything about the lack of an elevator for guests.

Very clean & quiet hotel in good central location

Posted Dec 29, 2015 on Hotels
Ithaca of South Beach Hotel has a small entrance with a lift for cases only, but we had seen this mentioned in other reviews, so weren't put off. Our room (110) was along the corridor from reception on the first floor and was very quiet (as we'd requested). The room was kept spotlessly clean and had lots of art deco ornaments, etc. in the room. Free wifi was useful, with USB sockets in the alarm clock to charge up to 4 devices. The staff were very friendly and keen to help in any way. Continental breakfast was included. Being Brits, the only thing we missed was having a kettle in the room. The hotel location was very good - about 4 minutes' walk to the beach and bus stops and a small supermarket about a minute down the road. Collins Avenue is much quieter than Washington Avenue or Ocean Drive (which had a number of restaurants that we used). The beach was much nicer and wider down this end of South Beach than further north.
