very stingy very cheap, bad service

Posted Apr 26, 2017
Pros: The only good thing worth about the Hotel is the location, by the beach and close to amenities.
I was extremely disappointed with this hotel, very stingy very cheap, bad service. We booked 2 rooms for 5 nights and it included 'continental breakfast'. At the moment of checking in told us breakfast was only for one day.. after arguing back and forth and having to show the reservation then they agreed to give us breakfast for the full 5 days. 1st hurdle over, in the morning we go for breakfast, turns out their continental breakfast its just a piece of toast with coffee. no eggs, no bacon, you are lucky if you get milk in your coffee (I asked for a little more milk for mine and the waitress was complaining saying it didnt include it). Guys very simple - if you dont want to offer breakfast - just dont at all. Im happy to research hotels that include a good breakfast but this is misleading to the consumer. Our A/C was leaking we called room service for them to fix it, they left a note saying technitians had come to fix and it was continuing to leak. Unpleasant mold smell. The hotel is in true need of renovation the carpets are stained the elevator extremely small and old. (only 6 people at a time). I had previously stayed at a kimpton in LA they gave you bottled water in the evening for the night to take to your room/ they also had cocktail hour where they gave away free wine and little bites to eat. - DO NOT EXPECT THIS FROM HERE!! like I said they are very cheap and very stingy. we only had breakfast once because it truly was horrible so we had to throw the other cards

Close to beach

My husband & I selected this hotel for its location in South Beach. A good Location is the best I can say about this property. Our room was very small, bathroom tiny, ladies room near pool filthy & unattended to... We will not return.... at $340 per night not a good value for what you get

Hi Catherine, Thank you so much for sending us your feedback, not everyone does and we appreciate hearing back on ways we need to kick it up to improve. We are definitely following up with our team in regards to your comments about the pool restrooms- that isn't our normal service and I apologize to hear it wasn't up to our standard by any means. And you are right about our location, it sure is amazing with the beautiful Art Deco style.. but what comes with the style, also comes the Deco reality of being a little snug. Everyone wants room on this beach that our rooms are a little on the small size. We hope you make it back to SoBe soon, even if it isn't with us, maybe you can check out our amazing Kimpton Angler's & EPIC. Safe travels!

Too adorable for words! Perfect.

Posted Apr 6, 2017
Perfect little boutique hotel. Location 1 block from Lincoln road and tonnes of great restaurants. 5 min to Ocean. Close but just far enough for from the storm. Free wine and great quality happy hours daily. Small rooms but did the trick. It had a South Beach feel with perfect amount of luxury, dash of kitsch, great service. In my opinion, better stay than any of the larger hotel chains at similar price. Only downside was the bikes were all in the shop getting fixed. Though there were Citibikes 1 block away they are little costly. Considering you pay $34 resort fee daily they should have compensated somehow or fixed half their bikes at a time. But small issue compared to an overall enjoyable trip!!

Thank you so much for sending us your feedback- we really appreciate hearing what our guests have to say and I am SO happy to hear that you find us adorable :) Not to brag- but Kimpton hotels pioneered the concept of boutique hotels in the United States, so we are happy to hear we are keeping it up! We hope to see you back at the Surfcomber soon- and I am sure we will have our bikes back and ready to go then. Until then, safe travels

Horrible and misrepresented

Posted Mar 30, 2017
Pros: The beach attendant who set up the chairs was incredibly nice. Well located.
Cons: Everything else.
We arrived on a Sunday afternoon at the end of the Ultra EDM Miami Music Festival. The electronic music was already pumping in the pool area, which was closed for a major, sponsored pool party open to anyone who paid the ticket admission price. The lobby was full of people who had clearly already started partying at 12:45pm. We had to "escape" our hotel to find a place to hang out all afternoon/evening. The scene went on until about 10:30pm, and then the pool area had to be closed for guest use all the next day so they could completely sanitize the pool, the grass, the bathrooms, the deck, etc. The walls of the rooms were also paper thin, and we could hear the people coughing in the room/talking next to us all night. When we complained that we were kept awake all night and then again early in the morning by the cleaning crew outside, our payback was the offer of a free beach umbrella rental (value=$19). The overstressed staff tried, but that was a pretty paltry attempt to make up for no sleep, no access to the pool area, and the nasty crowd of outsiders. For a Kimpton Hotel, they should have warned us in advance. Would never have gone. Just an awful experience.

Thank you so much for sending your feedback, we always appreciate hearing on ways we can better improve. I am so sorry that we did not get a chance to communicate with you ahead of time of the wackiness of Winter Music Conference in Miami, and then the week long pool parties we were having at our property. Once we find out our parties are booked, we try to reach out to every guest since most probably aren't too interested in electronic music.. but somehow we must have missed you and I apologize for that. If you do make it back to SoBe please feel free to keep my contact information and reach out to me, I would love to have you here at the Surfcomber to really wow your next stay, or help set you up at one of our sister properties- the Kimpton Anglers & EPIC. Until then, safe travels

Cozy and intimate

Posted Mar 22, 2017
Pros: Cozy room with two comfortable chairs and a very comfortable bed. Beach access is outstanding, pool is huge, warm, and fun.
Cons: Breakfast selection and service was good, but not great.
Location: Easy walking (less than a mile) to so many great restaurants and music events!
Six nights at the Surfcomber meant five days soaking up sun on the beach. It was a splendid vacation. Although Miami Beach can be wild — especially during spring break! — we found the hotel quiet and relaxing. It was a great place to read books during the day and party at night. I would definitely go back to the Surfcomber.

On SOBE

Posted Mar 22, 2017
Pros: Direct access to the beach with hotel services on the beach. Jordan, a beach attendant, took good care of us on the beach.
Cons: There was some construction going on so hopefully this will only improve the hotel for the future.
Location: Nothing more to be said about winter on South Beach when you just came from NYC.
Had a very good stay for a few days before a cruise at the Kimpton Surfcomber. Easy check in & room was ready at a fairly early hour which was appreciated since we arrived by 10AM & were able to spend time on the beach that day. Breakfast on the hotel property was good, especially bloody Mary's.

We're coming back!!

Posted Mar 13, 2017
Pros: Great staff! Great location! The hotel restaurant was better than all of the other restaurants we went to. Don't miss breakfast there.
Cons: Others have mentioned the lights in the hall are very dark. It's a little too easy to trip over service carts or room service stuff left in the hall.
Location: the beach is great. Stroll along Lincoln Rd or take one of the hotel bikes out for a ride through the Art Deco district.
I decided to make a mini vacation out of a business trip by adding 3 days in South Beach. So glad we did, and so glad we chose the Surfcomber! The staff is amazing (how do they hire so many terrific people?!?) Don't miss out on happy hour at the Social Club restaurant. Omar is a great bartender (thanks for the Palomas!) and Louis our waiter was super nice. Try the wings and mahi tacos! The pool staff is great -- they offer fresh citrus or mint water and sunscreen for all.. The fitness center is small but with Precor equipment so very good. Or take a run along the beach -- very easy
