Freezing cold, smelly room. Mattress on bed like jelly. No hot water. Checked in and left 20 minutes later. Will never be going back

Comfortable base in the country

Pros: Great location and views - and bacon. Gluten-free food available on request.
Cons: It's a bit of a big old Victorian pile, and looked a bit tired in places. But maybe that's just because it was raining!
Location: Walking, birdwatching, steam railway 400m away, waterfalls only 100m.
Hotel was just what was wanted on a drizzly evening - it was warm, dry and had a reasonable selection of food and drink across the restaurant/tea-room & bar.

Stunning location

Pros: Friendly, comfortable with good eating and drinking facilities.
Cons: Signage to their (extensive) car park.
Location: Devil's Bridge is home to some spectacular waterfalls. You need to be relatively fit and mobile to fully explore and see them at their best.
Chosen using a search engine on the basis of being the only hotel that could accommodate our family of four on that night near Aberystwyth. The Hotel is at Devil's Bridge some 10 miles out of town, but we had no alternative. As it turned out this was good luck as the Hotel was excellent and Devil's Bridge had some amazing countryside to explore (we never got to Aberystwyth).

Eclectic and a little off the beaten path

Location: Nearby is the Devil's Bridge, but other than that - and anything on offer at the pub - there isn't much to do. A car allows exploration though.
The hotel is a little eclectic. It is a hotel with a tea room and a pub. The hotel part itself is an upgraded building - but no elevator, so be prepared to carry bags up and down stairs. Check in is signing a register book and the room key is an actual key, that is left at the desk when leaving for the day. The rooms are comfoetable, if unspectacular. Breakfast is good and filling. Location is central, good for exploring the area, but a car is needed.

Old established hotel at a well known tourist spot

3 out of 5

Pros: Convenient for local attractions and fair value for money.
Cons: More attentive service needed in tea room and bar during daytime.
Location: Only hotel at Devil's Bridge. Immediately next to the Three Bridges and waterfalls (pay for entry) and the Vale of Rheidol narrow gauge railway.
Hotel is easy to find, being the only accommodation at Devil's Bridge, about 12 miles from Aberystwyth at the terminus of the Vale of Rheidol railway and overlooking the beautiful Rheidol Valley. The famous Three Bridges and associated waterfalls are just across the road. Generally good accommodation though service in the associated tea room and bar during the day were rather dilatory. However, good bar meals are served in the evening and a decent breakfast is provided. Parking is in a small car park at the hotel or on the road outside, otherwise in a larger car park a few minutes walk away. Reasonable value for money. Would stay again if I'm ever in the area.

A great, friendly place to stay.

Pros: Hotel is well maintained old hotel with lots of charm and character, A great breakfast is included; a restaurant and bar serve good food and beer.
Cons: Can't think of anything...
Location: Located in beautiful area with hiking and tourist steam train leading to town with beaches, incline train and great views.
Staff went out of their way to help us; we hadn't been aware that the hotel was so far from town; we had come by train, so had to taxi to the hotel. When we explained our situation, they were very sympathetic; called a hotel in town and the next day drove us to the new hotel!! This is a family run hotel in a beautiful setting; if we had had a car, we would have loved to stay there. Food was also good, and everyone was very friendly. I have never experienced such kind and thoughtful people in our travels before! If you want an out of the way, beautiful place to spend a few days, I highly recommend this hotel!!
