Beautiful and cozy old hotel

Middlebury inn is centrally located and you can walk to everything in town. It was warm and cozy in January. I stayed in the main historic building. Was upgraded to a huge king room with separate study. Staff are very friendly.

Pros: Charm and location
Location: Went to the 9 lessons and carols at Mead Chapel at 4. Sit upstairs if you can.
Not out first visit, but our loveliest. Great room. Inn and town beautifully decorated for Christmas. Delightful tea, delicious dinner and huge breakfast, all eaten within view of a fire. Thought of going to a big city, Montreal or New York to celebrate my 70th. Decided to stay in VT. Great choice.

Second visit to Middlebury Inn

Pros: We don't enjoy staying in chain hotel/motel properties, so the age and charm of the Inn appeals to us.
Cons: Lower bed height...or provide a step to get in/out. High beds aren't easy for seniors to negotiate.
Location: Location is ideal, in the center of town, and a short walk to shops, etc. It was the closest hotel property to our family, so the location was good.
We spent five nights at the Inn visiting relatives over Thanksgiving. Our room the first time was nice, but small, so we opted for a larger room, which overlooked town. The room was comfortable, clean and attractive. The staff was helpful, especially with requests to use the charming and original elevator, which required an operator. Breakfast in the main dining room was very nice, as was having nightcaps in front of the fire each evening. We anticipate future stays at the Inn.

Can't wait to go back!

This was a last-minute stay. Warm welcome, perfect room {not in the old Inn, which I will hope for next time}. Spacious, clean, quiet. Just what I needed after a long day! Next time, I will plan to be there longer and enjoy the dining room, as well. Can't say enough good things about the Middlebury Inn.

Stayed in the rooms out back, not part of the main hotel building. Nice place.

I didn't like being told, at the last minute, that we were being upgraded. I don't know how having to walk up two long flights of stairs is now an upgrade.

An old (1800), historic hotel with a nice staff & very good restaurant. Truthfully, it's about the only place to stay in Middlebury! The hotel needs an updating. For example, my room had a window a/c that was on the noisy side & not terribly effective for heat/cold. The baths are small & dated. Not much you can do about size, but an updating is in order. The hotel has enormous charm, the location is great, and the staff is very nice. Plus, a quite good restaurant.

We stayed in the inn, not the annex, although the rest of our family stayed there. We loved the historic feel of the rooms and the hallways. Our room was quite comfortable with lots of sunlight and all the important amenities of a hotel room. There was plenty of parking and the location to the surrounding area was tremendous--you could walk everywhere. We will definitely stay there again on our next trip to Middlebury!

Beautiful hotel in historic college town

Pros: Everything! From the pictures on the walls, to the friendly employees, I couldn't have been any more pleased with my choice.
Elegant brick hotel (built, I believe, in 1827) with extremely affordable rates located virtually on the campus of Middlebury College in western Vermont about 20 miles east of Lake Champlain. Tea, coffee, cookies and light sandwiches served in cozy living room every afternoon at 4. Rooms are spacious, spotless and beautifully appointed with fridge for snacks and cold drinks. I ate breakfast and dinner at the hotel (very good), but the town, which is within walking distance, has numerous other places to choose from. I was visiting my son, who is taking summer classes at Middlebury's famous graduate school of English, called Bread Loaf, an absolutely breathtaking 7 mile car ride up a fairly steep mountain that happens to pass by the home of poet Robert Frost! There is no good reason to stay anywhere else when visiting the town of Middlebury.
