Established to commemorate the new millennium, this busy city square is a cultural hub where you can check out open-air concerts and markets in downtown Leeds.

Millennium Square is a modern civic square that has captivated the city since the year 2000. Visit this sleekly designed space to check out the surrounding architecture, as well as attend special concerts and community events. See what’s screening on the giant media screen, watch local street performers or join in on a community fair. Admire the diverse architecture of the buildings that encircle the square and plan your visit to Leeds’ city center from a scenic park bench.

Stroll around the square to take in the sights of some of the city’s most significant landmarks. You’ll see the stunning Classical-Baroque architecture of Leeds Town Hall, which regularly hosts concerts and events. You’ll also find Leeds Civic Hall, Leeds General Infirmary, the Victorian-era Leeds City Museum and Leeds Academy (O2 Academy). Millennium Square is characterized by its gleaming white pavement and sculptural garden beds, which are offset by lush green foliage.

Take a seat at one of the park benches dotted around the square and take in the cityscape. You might see a special screening on the square’s media screen. The screen regularly broadcasts major events, such as large-scale concerts, the World Cup football tournament, Wimbledon tennis matches and a selection of Royal Opera House ballets and opera performances.

There are also areas for staging open-air performances and concerts, as well as local markets, fairs and special ceremonies. You might catch a food and wine festival, a free live music concert or a parade.

The park is surrounded by several cafés and restaurants, a couple of which have outdoor seating that spills out onto the pavement. Enjoy a coffee or some local fare and people-watch from your café seat.

Millennium Square is located in the heart of the city. You’ll find galleries, museums, theaters and shopping precincts in the surrounding streets. The square is free to visit, but some events may be specially ticketed. Local buses stop nearby and the Leeds Railway Station is a 15-minute walk away.
