Overnight in downtown MKE

Posted Sep 12, 2016
Pros: The staff.
Cons: The room smelled a little smokey.
Location: We didn't hang out nearby, but we did go to have late night drinks and snacks at Blu on the top of the Pfister, which was very lovely.
We were only there for a day, but I want to commend the staff at the Fairfield. We chose to valet park our car for $25 which gave us in-out privileges for 24 hours. I'd call 15 minutes before we needed the car. So I had lots of interactions with various people at the front desk (I also ordered non-feather pillows) as well as the valets themselves, and everyone was extremely kind and helpful. That was the best part of our stay there. The facilities are fine. We didn't eat breakfast there so I can't comment on that. I wish they had a pool, but whadareyagonnado. We had to turn off our thermostat in the room because it was just too cool and blowy, but once we did that, everything was great. Comfy bed. Clean. Room smelled a little smokey, which was odd, but not problematic.

small room

Posted Aug 8, 2016
Only stayed one night, VERY small room. Window was smaller than my bedroom window and had frosted glass, could not even see out. Clean rooms. Breakfast was supposed to be at 7:00 and did not start to bring out until 7:10. Did not expect too much from the breakfast but disappointed when eggs were just slightly warm. Because they started setting up late had to wait for waffle iron to warm up. Since I had to check out early was not able to wait for waffles.

Decent hotel in a sleepy part of town

Posted Jun 27, 2016 on Hotels
This older building in the "heart" of downtown was charming and centrally located. However, we thought that by being in the "heart" of downtown, we would have easy access to dining, attractions, and shopping. There IS a mall across the street from the hotel, but most of the stores have closed. There ARE some restaurants around, but not a fast-food one where you can grab a quick bite (except for a Subway). And as far as attractions, well, Milwaukee is certainly not what I would call "touristy." Do check out the Public Museum (within walking distance), but aside from that, there's not much else to walk to. We were in town for a baseball game, and that was a good experience (take a city bus from the hotel to the park for $2.25 each way), but the city itself is kind of blah. Nice hotel though - clean rooms, friendly service, and decent breakfast for the price.

Fine stay. But the guy who managed the morning breakfast on Saturday June 11, was a the rudest hotel employee I've encountered in years. He treated me, my family and other guests with complete disrespect for doing nothing more than trying to put food on our plates. He has no business being in front of guests.
