It was ok

The hotel is not clean, it had a weird smell all the time! The food wasn’t the best!! Honestly that buffet smelled, I couldn’t even eat! The cups for the “all inclusive drinks” were nasty plastic cups! And whatever you do, DO NOT DRINK THEIR WATER, ask for bottled water! There is nothing near by, so expect to be stuck on a small hotel area, unless you can afford to be taken to another beach which can cost you starting at $120.00 USD. Staff on the other hand very friendly!! As I mentioned I couldn’t even eat, I was made special dinner few times! The weather was amazing!

Great Resort ..clean..and staff very helpful

Only concern was lady who booked our dinner reservations...consistently late ..1 hr to an hour an a half..never apologized ...then sat there and waited while she did her makeup...i did say we have been waiting here sn hour and now your doing makeup! She responded by saying she was waiting for her computer to start..rudely..like it was an inconvenience we were there..this happen on 3 seperate occasions...was not impressed with her at all! Other than that...resort was great and staff very helpful..! I would totally return!

Very nice area, nice beach.

Cons: The food needs to be improved big time. We always choose all inclusive hotels and this is the one with the worst food.
Location: Snorkling, visiting las Animas Beach, Downtown Puerto Vallarta.
Our stay was pleasant, but the food is flavorless. The buffet changes menu daily, but the food is flavorless. We tried the a la cart restaurants in the hotel, and they were not good either. The best food were the tacos in the snack bar, but that was it.

Great beach location but needs better food.

It is a great serene beach location that is a ways away from the busy streets of the city. It was a great location to rest by the pool or ocean and read. The staff was very friendly and helpful. It was a very safe and secure place. The zip line tour was very fun! The downside is that the food is not great.

Barcelo fell short of current rating

The holiday turned into a nightmare from the minute we checked in after nearly an hour ride from the airport to Barcelo. 5pm check in resulted in not the room I had booked/paid for and so it being Christmas Eve was forced to stay in a "cave like" room until two days later when we moved to the premier level. The front desk forgot to give us our "all inclusive" wrist tags so we were hassled at the Christmas Eve dinner which was sub par and quite overwhelming for the staff trying to accommodate all the customers. We sat at a dirty table with the last guests glasses, silverware and napkins and when I asked for "clean" the staff looked offended. The front desk NEVER had Pesos for exchange and then shorted me 12 Pesos and when trying to convert dollars to Pesos the next day claimed I was already given the shortage which I knew was not true. The pool seemed ridden with an oily mix and only went in once and the beach offered nothing better (hardly a beach) and the locals had access to our beach as there was no security from the resort. Sadly my daughter got sick and never recovered for the 8 days we were they and I found it interesting how they wanted to give her anything she needed at no cost, i.e., Pedillyte, bottled water, etc. as I think they knew the resort had a bacterial problem. What resort have you been too which asks you to use hand sanitizer when entering the all inclusive restaurant? SCARY! Now home both my daughter and I are still suffering digestive problems!

SICK SICK SICK

Pros: We liked being out of town close to the zoo and botanical gardens
Cons: room updating and food handling and the management sucks
YOU WILL GET SICK IF YOU STAY HERE! # out of 4 of us got sick and they tell you it's a virus, has nothing to do with the food. That because you come from colder climates it causes sickness, We have been traveling to Mexico and other tropical destinations for decades, and have never experienced excessive vomiting diarrhea and stomach cramps from temp change.

Nice hotel, good food and drink service in nice pl

Cons: ATM machines that work
Location: Close to city.
Complaint is about airport shuttle, which is at present not known if issue is with hotel or Expedia. Another issue was that ATM machines (2) were not working for 2 days, therefore creating some trouble.

We had a good time but it’s a 3 star hotel.

You are only able to eat at the buffet and all other restaurants are reservation only; which you only get three of. Internet is not included. You get a towel card which if You lose, cost $20. The kids club is at an additional cost too. The rooms were ok. I liked that it had a nice beach and that water taxis were easily at ur disposal. Their entertainment was cool too: they had nightly shows which were a lot of fun and live music at the bar which was cool

Great location! Disappointed with room.

Pros: The staff are great! Always very friendly and helpful. I was very happy with the spa services.
Cons: The rooms need renovations! I recommend skipping the room upgrade or check out the room before you decide to upgrade to see if it is worth it.
Location: Located in beautiful Mismaloya. About 20 minute ride by taxi to downtown Puerto Vallarta and about a 30 minute boat ride to more isolated beaches.
Barcelo in Puerto Vallarta is located in Mismaloya which is a beautiful location. This was my 3rd stay at this location. The previous time was 4 years ago for our honeymoon. This time came to celebrate our wedding Anniversary. The location and staff are great! I was very disappointed with the room upgrade because the condition of the room definitely was not worth the additional money. When I did the upgrade to the master suite 4 years ago it was definitely worth it but this time upgrading to the suite deluxe premium was a waste of money. Immediately I noticed broken things in the room: a desk lamp, the clock radio connection for iphone, the toilet seat. However, what really caught my attention was the condition of the seating bench by the foot of the bed: bad odor and stains everywhere (I don't even want to think how much DNA was on that bench!). Made multiple complaints about condition of room until I finally was referred to the concierge. She was very nice and listened to us. I told her that I finally had to move the bench into the living room area because I could no longer stand looking at it (I had requested the staff to do it but was never done). They did offer to change us to another room by the 3rd day and we should have taken their offer. The mattress was very uncomfortable. Finally on the last day they offered to refund us half the cost of the upgrade (I think they should have refunded us the whole amount). I recommend the hotel for its location and staff.

Stayed one week. We purchased an upgrade package..The buffet was acceptable.-often food not hot. The room service was hit and miss. Coffee replaced every other day. The snack always had 2 peanuts but only one chip. The food in the vip lounge we felt was not kept fresh. Alcohol upgrade in lounge was good. The staff were above average. If you like very loud music this is your place to go! We feel that for the extra money we paid $50+ /day US was not good use of our resources.
