The Hotel Metropolitan Sendai (HMS) is immediately adjacent to the Sendai railway station. It may be a bit confusing to find. If you are arriving by train, use the West-Exit-JR, turn left and follow the sidewalk. The HMS is a classic upscale Japanese hotel. The staff is absolutely excellent, looking after your every need. The housekeeping was also excellent, as was the internet. The rooms are large by Japanese urban-hotel standards. There are some old-fashion practices, such as having a real room key attached to a fob (as opposed to an electronic card key). The HMS requests that you check the key at the front desk when leaving the hotel for the day. I can highly recommend the HMS. That said, the HMS is getting to the point of needing a refresh. There were no major issues - everything worked fine, was clean and well maintained, but the years do appear to be catching up. The HMS does not have a visible green policy. There were no recycle bins - only a notice to request that you reuse towels. There are a gazillion (!) places to eat within walking distance, including in the S-PAL mall attached to the train station and HMS. The subway entrance is directly in front of the HMS - could not be more convenient. Jogging from HMS is fine - the sidewalks are wide and passable, but no large parks close by. Due to my travel schedule I took runs late at night and in the pre-dawn, and felt very safe.
