No shade

Posted Aug 26, 2015
Pros: the food, the service, the beach
Cons: need sand on the beach. need to clean the moss off the bottom of the ocean...it makes the beach look dark
Location: Shopping mall across the street
I'm going to start with the negatives about this resort as there are not a lot: there is no shade on the beach. No palapas or umbrellas. They have some day beds but it's just not the same as as a palapa on the beach. Also the beach itself lacks sand. There are parts of the beach that is rock (from the foundation) and if you're not wearing flip flops, it's going to hurt. They need to bring in some sand. The beach is very small but the water was super warm and deep so swimming was a pleasure. The staff and the food were excellent. Don't bother with the a la carte restaurants; they are just weird. Make sure you ask for the specific brand of alcohol you want otherwise you get some terrible version. The rooms are super modern in purple and white. The bed was very hard but I prefer that to soft.

Great staff, comfortable hotel

Posted Aug 26, 2015
We had a great experience. The staff was amazing, always smiling! We loved Andrei, Travis, Diane and Jojo!!.The room was super clean and comfortable. The pool, beach and daily activities were great. The buffet was great for breakfast and lunch. Way better than the ones at Punta Cana. The Jerk Chicken was delicious. We had dinners at the specialty restaurants the food was JUST OK not like we expected was our only complain really. We also had the romantic beach dinner, it was romantic with candles and lights, but again the food was not so great.

Adults only experience

Posted Aug 25, 2015
Pros: Adults only, very very clean, safe, modern, good wifi, good bedding, very good food selections, and above all, a very nice and relaxing beach
Cons: Air conditioning not working well in fusion restaurant. Need for sun umbrellas in the beach area. Bottle of gin in the in-room liquor dispenser.
Location: We did nothing outside of the resort, because that was the plan. But there is a very small shopping strip across the street.
The Riu Palace sits adjacent to the Riu Montego Bay, but they are very different. The Palace is about 2 years old, and very modern -- very different than any other Riu we have visited. Access is protected and rules are enforced, which gives a feeling of exclusivity. There is of course a price premium compared to the Riu next door, but we found it to be worth it. Food selections in the buffet were very good, and although not a massive buffet, the quality was better than most other establishments. The a-la carte restaurants were OK, but nothing spectacular. Wifi was working ok most of the time. Staff were superb -- this was our fourth time in Jamaica, and staff made the whole stay great. Property is extremely clean, we noted cleaning staff taking care of details not found in other resorts. Fitness center is small, but everything works really well. This is very small complex, appropriate for an adults only environment. Beach is nice, but shady areas are at a premium as there are just few young palm trees. The beach feels private because of the way it is set up, and the hotel offers good security -- no peddlers noticed within the property. Air conditioning was working really well in our room and the buffet area, but not working well in the fusion restaurant. Keep in mind, the rooms are really suited for couples that know each other well, as everything is really open. Overall, we had a fantastic time in the hotel, and we would highly recommend.

Wonderful Location for Outdoor Activities

Posted Aug 13, 2015
Pros: Bars, Rooms, Food Choice, Beach, Water Activities
Location: Scuba Caribe, access to Riu Hotel, shopping within walking distance
Riu Palace was a wonderful all inclusive resort. The meals were excellent (we ate them all at the buffet for breakfast and dinner and the snack bar at the Aqua Bar for lunch). We were unable to get a reservation for the a la carte restaurants as they were booked solid - next time I will set up the reservations immediately upon arrival. ALL of the staff were incredibly friendly and this made the entire trip worth the time and money spent to be away from home. I look forward to going back to Riu Palace in the near future. As a side note, I feel that people should know that the rooms were spacious and comfortable as well as clean, however the bathroom does lack privacy (the toilet and shower both are behind doors, however the bath and sinks are open to the room). This was not a problem for us particulary, yet I could see where this may be an issue for others.

Small but nice

Posted Aug 8, 2015
Overall we had a great experience. My initial reaction was it way too small. However, it met 95% of my needs. Entertainment was good. Staff that go above and beyond Travis, Kyash, Filmore, Andrei (at the pool bar).

Staff were excellent from check in to check out. Very clean and comfortable with good food and not crowded. Beautiful beach with very nice infinity pools. The most relaxing vacation we have had. Definitely a no worries vacation.
