A gorgeous walking trail takes you from the southern entrance along the coast to Lover's Point.
Several small paths lead down to the water where people can look for shells, watch birds (like the plovers in this picture) and/or just enjoy the crashing waves. I took this picture on the 17 mile drive. Fisherman's Wharf, shop, eat, walk, sightsee, enjoy the sea life. Jellies are such interesting characters, the more you watch them, the more you notice new and amazing features, movements, even personalities. #colorful I could stare at the jellyfish for days on end. Saw these Jellyfish at the lovely Monterey Bay Aquarium. Recommend stoping by if you are ever in the neighborhood. There is a fabulous jelly fish exhibit at the Monterrey Bay Aquarium. You can get up close to many varieties including these fire jellies. Early morning and on the far east side of Fisherman's Wharf, one can get a totally different perspective of Steinbeck's beloved Fisherman's Wharf. Jelly Fish. Absorb the blue if you wanna be cool.! The drive along the coast is amazing no matter what Mother Nature is up to. Behind the museum entrance, Pacific House has a gorgeous courtyard. A small fountain with koi sits in the center, Adobe walls all around, and shady trees. A quiet, Pacific, rest place.
So many lovely flowers, even in the winter! My first whale sighting! Cannery Row- formerly the west coasts largest sardine producing area, now focusing on hooking tourists. Have been on their tours twice so far. They are professional and the boats are good size - easy to get around from side to side (I always seem to be on the side where the whales were not!!) #localgem Cute seals playing and sunning. (April 2017) Mural near cannery row Situated in a large yet unassuming warehouse on Cannery Row, this was the most amazing place to take my children; even teenagers are awed by the plethora of exhibits. A common sight along the streets of this quaint city. Very well-made wind chimes. All of them very pretty . Great souvenirs in all the shops over there., From the Love this place! I took this photo through a scope with my iPhone 5. These are monarch butterflies settled in for the winter. According to the volunteers, there is something in the butterfly's DNA that tells them that every 4th generation is the migrating generation. Isn't that awesome? Who knew that sardines can move in such fluid, musical motion? Simply captivating. Eerie resident of the Aquarium. That's a seahorse, not a weed! Visit the aquarium. Be a part of a community capturing wonderful jellyfish! One of the outdoor observation decks at the aquarium and outdoor pools. Interactive displays and exhibits, telescopes, and information galore, plus lots of great looking aquariums and exhibits.
Although I tend to not like keeping animals in enclosures, large aquariums can be invaluable resource to educating the general public about the importance of protecting our oceans and the many types of marine life. The Monterey Canyon, one of the largest underwater canyons in the world, begins off the coast of Moss Landing, in the center of Monterey Bay. It is 249 miles (401 km) long, although its shape changes regularly because of currents and sediment being left in the area. You can park any over-look at the side of road walk toward the Pebble Beach to the ocean. Longest 17 miles in my life (lot of stops because of the amazing view) Watching this was quite relaxin. the beach is superbe Early morning sunrises in Monterey, California are so peaceful. Before the workers are up and you can only hear the sound of the ocean (and the sea lions). The ghost tree, so called due to its bleached appearance is a beautiful stop in the 17 mile drive on Pacific costal route.
