Jaded front desk and terrible bath room

Posted Aug 24, 2015
This is a cute cottage with a 30 minute leisurely walk to the beach. That's about it with their good points. The bathroom is extremely old with the toilet roll holder nearly falling off. The tub is ancient and very slippery. Talking with the front desk reminds me of DMV. They just want to get you over with. Rattling off instructions like a uninterested parrot. Later, we found out the internet code they gave us don't work. They said they'll sent someone to come and help. That someone never came.

No A/C. No shampoo, overpriced.

The name of the place should be changed to Carmel cabin or similar. The standard is so low. I can give them credit for breakfast.. I wouldnt recommend this place to anyone. However Carmel is exceptional and I would recommend to anyone who is driving US1 to stop and see this charming place.

Nice porch

Posted Aug 18, 2015
The individual cottages are somewhat dated, but the price was reasonable for the area. We had a large porch with a small table & chairs which we enjoyed in the evening & next morning. The breakfast basket was tasty. Had to request toilet paper and coffee for the room. The common fire pit is turned off by 9 pm so don't plan for a late night there. It was easy to find and a good value.

Very romantic

Posted Aug 5, 2015
We have been to Monterey at least 6 times since we got married and we've tried different hotels. This is the best so far. We stayed here for our 10th wedding anniversary and the place was very romantic and clean. They offer a cute little breakfast. The place is near excellent restaurants. We will definitely stay here again. The staff even waited for us to check in late which we thought it was awesome considering we traveled 7 hours.

Older property in NE Carmel

Posted Jul 27, 2015
Pros: It was the cheapest lodging we could secure in Carmel.
Cons: The "zen garden" could use some cleanup. There was a workman's area messy with a lot of wood, cut tiles, old cardboard, etc that needs a cleanup.
Location: Great locale... Carmel Mission, beach, and Pt. Lobos state reserve nearby. Loved the area.
This older property is something of a "budget" property in over-priced Carmel. It was roomy. The staff was great. Enjoyed my continental breakfast delivered in a basket in the morning. The property overall looks a little tired. We're walkers, so we had no trouble walking about 8 blocks to where all the shops and restaurants are.

Needs renovation

Posted Jul 16, 2015
We stayed here a few years ago and loved it. That was not the case this time. Room had a musty smell and the carpet was badly stained. Also had a slight gas smell. Hot tub was half empty and dirty.

Not excellent but good value for the money

Posted Jul 16, 2015
Our stay was a positive experience. The Excellent: The continental breakfast was very good and included coffee and tea (Mr. Coffee machine) as well as a basket delivered to the cabin with 2 muffins, 2 danish pastries, 3 yogurts, 4 juice boxes, 2 apples and 2 oranges. The Good: The greeting at the office was friendly, the cabin was clean, the big soft beds were clean, the bathroom was clean, the TV was big and cable worked, the Wi-Fi worked, it was quiet throughout our stay, and the price was one of the lowest available in generally-expensive Carmel. The Not-so-Great: The large bathroom window facing the street at shoulder height was unlockable; a thief could easily enter. The grounds were littered with empty cardboard furniture boxes and old appliances waiting to be hauled away. Several units in the process of renovation were open with construction debris inside and outside the units. I got the impression this is the usual with a few units always under renovation (but it may be temporary, I don't know.) Overall: It's not a five star resort but it was relatively good value for the money.

Generally nice, the heater and gas fireplace in the room were throwing a little heat and lit/burning, respectively. Thank goodness there was a small fan in the room to keep it comfortable.
