Clogged toilet that was not fixed by hotel

I checked into this hotel at 11pm. At 11.20pm I find out that the toilet is clogged. I call front desk, he says there is no one who can help, but he can give me a plunger to try to clean it myself! When talking to manager, he also mentioned that he was aware this room's toilet had a clogging problem. And yet he sold it out for $180 a night!
Next day morning I talked to manager asking him for some monetary compensation. He said since I booked through expedia, I will have call expedia and they can give compensation through expedia. Later I called expedia customer service and the agent in turn called the hotel. the hotel person said that they had no notes about a clogged toilet and so could not give any compensation.
Not only did I have a very bad hotel experience, but the hotel refused to take any responsibility for a problem they were aware of.
