Very good hotel if you can get into a quiet room

Posted Nov 13, 2016
Location: Beach 5 blocks, lots of shops, restaurants extremely convenient as this hotel is right at town center.
The hotel is perfectly located at the best part of Carmel. Of all the hotels in the town area, it is the closest to the beach, only 5 blocks away, yet opposite the old Candy store and right above Lush. The lobby is wonderful, makes you feel like you are in an old English inn. Rooms facing Ocean Ave will be a bit noisy, but we have a corner room facing the rear and very quiet. The walls are paper thin and windows single pane, so you will hear a lot of noises around. There is no elevator, but that is part of the charm of such hotels. This is a very small hotel, only around 23 rooms (starting room 9 to room 32) and only 3 floors (lobby 1st, rooms 2nd and 3rd). You will feel that it is a step back in time the moment you walk into the lobby with wonderful tapestry and fireplace, all in dark red hue. The room we had was very good, but bathroom is small and the heater is a hot water heater that creeks. Overall it is a great hotel, but only if you get a corner room facing the rear so it is not so noisy.

A Carmel Classic

Posted Oct 4, 2016
Excellent location; the Pine Inn is part of Carmel's village life. The Inn is just across the street from a library. Complimentary parking is a nice feature; the lot in back of the Inn gets crowded but street parking is available, too. An Il Fornaio restaurant is part of the hotel, and it has excellent baked goods. There is no elevator. Our room had nice furnishings and plenty of cabinets, and it was quiet. If you want to be a short walk from the art galleries, restaurants, and shops that give Carmel its charm while still being just a nice walk away from the beach, the Pine Inn will be a good place to stay.

Classy hotel in the middle of everything we wanted

Charming Mediterranean-esque accommodations with all amenities at our fingertips. Easy drive from airport with private parking - very important in high traffic Carmel. On premises eatery made our evening arrival most enjoyable.

Right in the heart of Carmel

Older hotel with lots of charm. Service is above and beyond fabulous. Only issue we had is that the walls, Windows and doors are so thin you tend to hear everything.

Using location as the draw

Haven't changed rooms in 30 years. Pretty dumpy rooms and lobby looks like it's suck in 1960!!

Nice hotel walking distance to town & beach!

I do like this hotel but some of the rooms are very noisy...like over the kitchen & the rooms overlooking 6th street.

Classical Comfort

Pros: I like an old fashioned hotel with character and this is my go-to on the Monterey Peninsula. Central with good beach access and regal charm.
I come to Carmel periodically on business and I am always well taken care of at the Pine Inn, one of the few remaining places in the grand tradition of hoteliers. Not very techy or modern, but full of character and warmth.

Seems charming but needs work

No ac, no working fan, mold, dry rot, minimal parking, dirty bedding, dirty shower, gap above door leaving you exposed to guests in the hall.
