When I made the reservation they told me my room had a balcony, when I get there I get a room 381 next to the loudest sliding guest door in the building and no balcony couldn’t sleep because of it thanks for ruining my stay. Constant opening and closing a nightmare location.

Or opinion it was not worth the $400 per night average day and up. It’s a nice facility but older you can hear people walking by and opening and closing their room doors. The rooms were clean the linens were clean. You are really just paying for location the rooms are just average, considering what you have to pay. I would stay here again only if I really had to and there was no other lodging available.

Front desk staff was very welcoming, pleasant, and helpful. Beautiful and comfortable lobby area with plenty of seating, a reading room with a selection of art and design books, and a computer and printing room my kids loved. The property is so welcoming for dogs and I was happy to see so many well-behaved guest dogs with their owners throughout the hotel. The property is SO much closer to Fisherman’s Wharf than I had realized and surrounded by a wide variety of dining snd shopping options. The beds and pillows are SO comfortable and the room was unexpectedly quiet. It’s one of the quitest nights I’ve had in a hotel room ever. Spacious bathroom, nice lighting options in the room. We did not use the pool but it looked great and we’ll try it out next time we visit.

Our room was next to the maids closet, it was noisy and the hotel was so large you had to hike down multiple hallways. I asked for a ground floor room and got a 4th floor room. The pics of this hotel look way nicer than the reality.

An excellent sleep in a very comfy bed, the hotel is well located in the best area of the city. The only black spot is the pool, located right at the exit of Monterey bypass tunnel then no need to pack your swimwear, unless you enjoy chilling with a highway background noise.

I originally booked a hotel up the street, where I had previously stayed. It has cozy rooms and I booked one with a fireplace.The Portola Hotel was more expensive and disappointing in these ways: rooms were sterile, not cozy; I paid extra for the King Courtyard and it was a view of the roof and the roof of the atrium; the pool is in an adjacent building where you have to walk in your robe through a public courtyard to get to; pool and hot tub not that hot. Water pressure, not that good, Stain on the duvet when I folded it over. The lobby is nice but I didn't come to sit in the lobby. Overall, it was ok.

Awesome location, luxury hotel at reasonable prices, hot tub (large almost like a mini pool), heated pool, balcony, top notch amenities and did I mention walkable to the beach and other Monterey tourist activities? It is a perfect spring break getaway!

Portola hotel is one of Monterey’s best hotels. The staff is friendly, accommodating and very helpful. The views are great, rooms are clean and spacious. Easy walk to the warf and downtown.
