pros:good location. Clean and comfortable room. Quite and safe. Good breakfast. Cons: all public area in the hotel are closed by 10 pm. The fire place in the yard was shut down around 9:30pm. Staff in the hotel were not enthusiastic at all.

Pleasant experience

My husband and I had a very pleasant experience during our one night stay at The Hideaway. The wine and cheese tasting was definitely a bonus. Breakfast was great, and there was a lot to choose from. The fire pit outside is a nice feature. Rooms are cute and cozy. Unfortunely, we did not have an iron in our room. Overall, however, we enjoyed our stay. :)

Pros: The welcoming atmosphere created by the staff, location to shops and restaurants, cleanliness of the rooms, excellent breakfast and free happy hour.
Location: Location was quiet and within easy walking distance to the main Carmel restaurants/shops. Plenty of free parking on the street outside the hotel.
We stayed for 7 nights in a downstairs studio room. Roy and Andrea were the perfect hosts - very welcoming, informative about things to see and do, and above all they made us feel as if we were guests in their own home. Our room was very clean and the daily servicing couldn't be faulted. The highlight was the daily (free) happy hour from 4-6pm - an opportunity to try out a local red and white wine, a lovely cheese board, and to chat with others, or not if you just wanted a quiet corner on your own. Breakfast was included in the room rate. There was plenty of variety to suit all tastes - continental and cooked, which suited us perfectly. Free wifi was fast, unlimited and reliable.

Unfriendly, boring, old

Pros: nothing really
Cons: common area policy, rooms conditions and cleaning, stuff, breakfast
Place is located 10 mins away walking from the beach and 4 mins away walking from any attraction such as restaurants or cafes. That wouldn`t be a problem if all common areas of this motel were not closed by 9pm, after this time u can`t purchase anything or gather by fire. So you are limited by your tiny rooms. Speaking about rooms, doors at our room were broken. Room condition in general including cleaning was satisfactory the best. I 100% don`t recommend this place for money we paid. It just shouldn`t cost more then 100$ per night during low season. I also should notice that stuff prefers not to notice guests at all. Extremely unfriendly.

We liked the quiet location, the excellent breakfasts, and the helpfulness of the staff. Limited parking was a drawback, as we had to wait a couple of times, driving around, or just parked and waiting for a spot to open up. That was unnecessarily inconvenient. Otherwise, a great getaway spot.

newly updated & convenient location

Cons: room cleaning staff extremely slow; waited until late afternoon for room to be cleaned. looked like they slowly cleaned ~5-6 rooms simultaneously
nicely updated rooms & lobby area. Breakfast & wine/cheese hour were good, though need some variety - same food every day for our 3 day stay. Lobby staff did not go out of their way to be helpful. Room not ready for check-in at 2pm, told check-in was 3pm . Asked them to call our cell phone when room was ready. No call, returned at ~3:15, room was ready but never got a call. Asked on second day for room to be cleaned before noon so we could watch NFL playoff game in afternoon. Lobby staff said probably not possible but "let us know if you need new towels."
