I have a policy also; never do business with liars and cheats. I had two rooms booked through Expedia. I needed to change the dates and called the hotel directly 3 days in advance. They said there was nothing they could do; it was non-refundable and non-changeable as per the booking agent Expedia. So I spent the next hour on Expedia chat. Expedia indirectly (apparently incapable of simple direct answers) stated that they could do me a favor and change the dates for a “penalty fee.” If I paid an additional $350 for the $200 room, they could make the change. But there was no way I was getting a refund or even a partial credit. Expedia claimed the no refund policy was the hotels. The hotel said it was Expedia’s policy.

John, Every hotel has non-refundable, non-changeablereservations. They also have regular bookings with other policies, like 72 hour cancellation. You had a choice of these options and you chose non-refundable.

Spent one night for a quick weekend trip and I will definitely be back next time I’m in the area. The front desk staff were lovely during check in and check out. The room was spacious, clean and comfortable. Very walkable area, restaurants/downtown area was about 2 blocks away, fisherman’s warf was about a 15 minute walk as well. Definitely a gem of a hotel.

Staff was very nice and gave great recommendations for dining. Rooms were clean and always stocked with clean towels. Parking is slim for bigger vehicles, but overall a great property to stay at.

The hotel was nice and was walking distance from Alvarado! Staff on check-in night of 1/11/24 was very nice but every experience with staff after that was a nightmare. Upon check out I was billed an additional ~$70 for having “3 extra guests overnight” in the room when my family was just saying goodbye to us in the room then left shortly after. When I went to speak with staff about it, on the day of 1/16/24, and ask for the printed hotel policy along with the document I signed, they printed the signed document but refused to show me any documentation of their hotel policy regarding what is considered an “additional guest” no matter how many times I asked. They said “I’m sorry you interpreted it that way” and told me to be on my way and that there was “nothing” they could do about it. The original staff from the night of 1/11/24 was very kind to us when our original room’s door would not shut whatsoever (I believe they recently had new weather stripping installed which can be a doozy!) so they allowed us to change rooms. When I brought this up with the staff member working in the AM of 1/16/24 they told me “they didn’t have to do that. I would have slammed the door shut for you and told you to deal with it.” Overall cute little hotel that is walking distance from a lot! I just wish I did not have such an abhorrent experience with the staff during my trip back down here for a funeral.

If you're sensitive to noise, this is not for you.
Could have been a 5/5 stay if it wasn't for the constant noise of cars, trucks and buses. There is a bus stop right outside which tends to be loud. The area also gets alot of traffic, so if you are sensitive to noise and don't have a way to cancel it out (earphones/headphones), then I would suggest booking in one of the hotels along Munras Ave for cheaper or almost same price. I also noticed very few ants in the bathroom, which was very odd but nothing to be concerned about. The room doors also open and shut pretty loudly, so you can hear others coming in and out. It would also be nice to have microwaves inside the rooms, but they only have one in the front desk office for everyone to use. Since I was on the 2nd floor, I didn't feel like going down just to heat up any food. The room was decent size but the bathroom felt small/tight. The shower water pressure could've been stronger for my preference, it was just ok. Other than that, it would've been an almost perfect stay. The front desk were very nice and welcoming. Free coffee/tea is available at the front desk office at all times. The bed and pillows were comfortable. Plenty of outlets and enough lighting. People in the other rooms were either very quiet or the walls are not thin. Just wish it was able to block the noise from the street.

Thank you for your review. Unlike the Munras hotels, we are walking distance to restaurants downtown and Fisherman’s Wharf. We have 24/7 lobby with coffee and tea.

Great location, comfortable beds and everything was very clean. A great option for an affordable lodging in close walking distance to basically everything. Would stay here again if in the area! Staff was very nice as well.

I like this place as it is convenient to everything. It was mostly a Motel than a hotel since the lobby is mostly for coffee. It is still a nice place with a pool and super clean rooms. Rooms have amples bathroom space and good tv, a business desk with chair and a good bed and lighting.

I have stayed in Monterey often but in the hotels farther from the water. The Stevenson is walking distance to Fisherman's Wharf and downtown restaurants with a great vibe. Super comfortable beds and nice pool. Really enjoyed it.
