Like staying in a park.

Posted Aug 28, 2017
Pros: The hummingbirds. Food was good.
Cons: Shuttle service from hotel to Santa Elena
Location: Excellent variety of things to explore. Zip lines for the hearty. Nature walks. Specialty tours.
The hotel was very clean and the grounds were well-kept. There are nice, short hiking trails on-site. It might be difficult for someone who requires handicap access, but a few rooms could be managed by a wheelchair, and there are ramps in and out of the dining hall. The only negative is the need for taxis into Santa Elena or the other attractions nearby. These expenses add up quickly, and I strongly recommend renting a car for your trip that has GPS.

Beautiful birds and mountain vistas

Posted Jun 24, 2017
It was a cozy room that comfortably slept four people, near to several hiking trails that wound through the property. The typical Costa Rican breakfast was delicious and service impeccable. Although it rained off and on we enjoyed the beautiful sitting room/observatory for the morning. Dinner was well prepared, the bar stocked, and service excellent.

Awesome Place

Posted Jun 13, 2017
Pros: People, location, cabins, restaurant, price/value, everything.
Cons: What could be improved has nothing to do with the lodge. The unpaved roads up the mountain to Santa Elena are very rough, be prepared.
Location: There are many things within 8 km or less; the Monteverde Reserve, the Butterfly Gardens and the nearby Ecological Sanctuary, Don Juan's Coffee tour,
I cannot say enough good things about the Monteverde Lodge. First and foremost would have to be the people. Friendly, helpful, competent, just wonderful people, and they do everything possible to make your stay as enjoyable as possible. You end up feeling like you're staying at a friends place. The location, surrounded by the forest, is amazing. Dense forest is literally a few feet away from your cabin. Birds and animals are everywhere, and you wake up each morning to their sounds. The cabins are basic and a bit rustic, but they have everything you need: clean, comfortable beds and linens, nice bathrooms, and the front porch each has is a great place to sit and watch the rain. Plan on spending a day or two just exploring the forest and trails around the lodge, not to mention trying out the zip lines. The restaurant and the food is excellent, the staff, as mentioned above, is top-notch. The view from the restaurant is beautiful, and you can watch the hummingbirds zipping around, or you may even be visited by a passing family of capuchin monkeys. The location is a bit out of the way, so watch for signs closely, and if you arrive in the dark it can be even more difficult to find. The GPS I had with the car I rented did not have the lodge listed, so it was marginal help. It got me close, but I had to ask some local folk for the final directions. I will go back.

Just what we were looking for, a bit more rustic, but we wanted to be in the middle of nature. Staff were so nice and helpful!

Great surroundings, you feel like you are in the middle of the rainforest. The room was confirmable- high ceiling, big bathroom. The walls are a bit thin, so you do hear your neighbor, however, not a big deal. Will stay again

Lovely piece of heaven

We had horrible weather, not the norm, torrential rains and gale force winds. All nature stuff shut down for safety sake. The Lodge had lots of windows so could sit and watch a good verity of birds.

We apologize for the weather condition since it is something that we can not control and that in our country it is normal for the climate to change continuously, we hope that if you return to costa rica, you will stay with us again and that the climate is better

View alone doesn't cut it

We wanted to stay here since this hotel was in the cloud forest. Rooms were very average.. Bugs.. Bathroom was not on good condition. No air conditioning and leaving window open let bugs in. Beds creaked with every single move. The silver lining was the restaurant and the free breakfast which was delicious Stay elsewhere

It really is a shame that there is no step as expected, the cloud forest forest lodge is a wildlife refuge and therefore there are many animals and insects. The rooms are checked and cleaned every day, I do not explain the mosquitoes inside and I apologize for the incident, I do not know what could happen to the bathroom because in terms of maintenance is something constant, we would like it if we saw all this At the same time to have been able to help. Enn regarding air conditioning is not something that we offer. Thank you very much for your stay with us and your comment is helps us to improve

Pros: Staff are excellent. Went out of their way to be helpful.
Terrible roads but worth it when you get there. Lots of birds to view from the hotel and trails that you can walk in the grounds.

Thank you very much for staying with us. We are very happy to know that I had a good time. As for the road is actually part of the natural of Monteverde and actually spend a lot of money on repair but the rain every year produces a lot of damage
