The smoke alarm battery was weak and began beeping at 1:14am. I was sound asleep. I called the front desk for maintenance but was told the desk person was the only employee on site. He told me he could give me a battery to change myself if I came down to the desk to get it. I couldn’t reach the alarm but my friend could after stepping on the wheeled desk chair. He disabled the alarm so I could sleep. We had driven straight through from Texas the previous night and looked forward to finally get some sleep. My friend was able to sleep but I was not, even after the alarm was disabled. It’s scary knowing there isn’t a hotel maintenance person on hand should something go wrong, like a toilet overflowing or a drain clogging, or a smoke alarm going off needlessly. It’s quite disappointing. I will no longer stay in a hotel that chooses to operate without the required help one comes to expect from an institution of hospitality.
