The "Bates Motel" of Monticello, Indiana
Posted Sep 20, 2015
Upon arriving at the motel the first thing we saw was a sign that said there was to be no parking in front of the office. The next sign we saw told us this was a "No Smoking" facility but the haze and cigarette smell in the office told us otherwise. The box of used plastic tubing used when giving a breathing treatments that was on the floor should have told us to leave there and then. Our room, No. 124, was right next to the soda dispensing machine. We opened the door and were met with a warm, stale air smell, you get when you open a long closed-up room. My wife tried using a spray air freshener but that didn't help. I turned on the in-the-wall air conditioning unit to start cooling off the room and went into the bathroom to wash my hands. The sink at first drained slowly, then not at all and then something floated up from the drain. The bottom of bathtub was "peeling". The carpet needed a good cleaning and the night stand between the two beds had been warped by too much of "something" wet being left on it - the top was not level. My wife and I quickly went out to get a sandwich and give the room time to cool down. We returned in approximately 30 minutes to find the room even warmer than when we first left. The air conditioning unit was throwing out hot air and a bad smell. At this point we repacked our car and I then went to the office to check out and request a refund. No refund was given, "It's not our policy," was the answer given by the check in person.
