Horrible! Do not stay here!

Posted Jul 17, 2013
Pros: Location to train station.
Cons: Building needs total renovation.
Location: Spent one night as a layover on train journey. Had a meal at a local restaurant which was a great kebab.
It is extremely run down. The sheets and pillows had cigarette burns. There was a hole in the ceiling of the bathroom. The shower only came on for 30 seconds at a time, was too hot to stand in and could not be adjusted.

only if you are desperate

Posted Aug 6, 2011
The hotel was situated next to the train station - a plus - but next to a restaurant which can be noisy at night. There was no soap, shampoo, lotion , or anything in the room, there were wormlike creatures crawling in the shower, and no air conditioning that we could figure out how to turn on. We couldn't leave the windows open because there were no screens and the bats were up in the trees next to our window. The towels were small and dingy and there were no washcloths. There was no breakfast. The front desk host was very polite but they didn't open until the next day at 8am, so we couldn't even ask for the soap and shampoo, etc. There was a T.V. which helped to serve as a distraction, however. The youth in the neighborhood were rowdy and the locals who hung out at the train station were dressed like hookers or looked like they were under the influence of alcohol or drugs which made me thing this town as very shady. We only stayed for one night as a train stop on our way into Sain and were afraid to even walk the streets at night as we did Paris and Berlin. Nope, not here. If Montpellier has something to offer, the impression at the train station and this hotel overshadowed it.

Not impressed at all.

Posted Mar 27, 2011
I am not satisfied about the hotel because it wasn't as clean as it should be, I asked for double bed and I got to single beds and my mate got 3 single beds when we clearly said we want double. When the next morning I went out and in the evening I tried going back to the room and I opened the room and someone else was living there.

Not impressed

Posted May 7, 2010
Room was very cramped. Toilet door didnt close and no toilet seat. No plug for the bathroom sink. Poor lighting as only one light over the bunk bed part which was not required. Light also had no cover which was dangerous. Only French bolster style pillow which was uncomfortable.

Avoid at all costs

Posted Oct 3, 2009
This hotel is the pits. I don't know how it dares to call itself a hotel. A drunks hostel would be a more accurate description. The reception is closed at 10pm, all the lobby furniture is removed and steel shutters brought down. There is noise and shouting throughout the night. Montpellier was full due to a conference or we would have moved. They over booked the hotel and there were people sleeping on the floor in the lobby. It was very bad and I do NOT recommend this dump.

No Words For How Gross

Posted Aug 23, 2009
All of the previous reviews that gave the Abasun a 1 overall, could have been written by myself. But in addition to the extremely inferior bedding and bathroom faculities no one has mentioned the "air conditioning". Our room faced south and would have been unbearably warm without the ac. However it was on a timer and turned off sometime in the early evening leaving no option other than opening the screenless windows which faced a major and busy street. The trams ran in both directions until 2:00am and then started back up at 5. In addition street cleaners went up and down all night and deliveries occurred early in the morning. They also required you to leave your key whenever you went out. The tv received one channel and we don't remember any coffee pot or hair dryer. In addition the shower sink closet smelled of sewer gas or mildew.

Basic, but I rather liked it

Posted Feb 13, 2009
Re-reading other reviews before I went, I was concerned I had made a mistake, and to be honest my first impression was that it was going to be a very long and uncomfortable two week stay. The room was very basic, but everything worked: the shower was hot, the bed was comfortable (despite the strange pillow arrangement), there was a desk to work at, and the room was cleaned daily. In fact, I grew to like its simplicity. There were a couple of minor problems during my stay, but these were quickly fixed and I found the staff friendly and helpful. This is very much a no-frills hotel - the towels are indeed small, the stairs are not child-friendly and there are no lifts. I would stay here again, but it is not somewhere I would stay with a family. At current exchange rates it is overpriced in terms of what we British expect for our money. If you want carpets, abundant towels, Wi-Fi, satellite TV and freebies - go elsewhere. If you want a brilliantly situated, simple, albeit quirky, base from which to explore this beautiful City, I would recommend it.

Get a hostel instead

Posted Sep 8, 2008
We reserved a place with 3 beds only to arrive and find ourselves with 2 beds and and a dirty foam with sheets on the floor as bed #3. The room was so small there was no place to put luggage and the cleanliness of the bathroom was not good - there was a shower in our room but the toilet is a shared facility down the hall. There was no AC in the room and our window had no screen and it gave directly onto the main street which was quite noisy. Lastly, one of us was bitten all over by bed bugs. Moral of the story: don't stay here, get a hostel instead. It will be cheaper and can't be any worse than this place.

Not Impressed

Posted Aug 2, 2008
Our room was small and dark with no room in the bathroom and shower so we had to dry and get changed in the main area. The walls were paper thin with holes and dents. Your could here people walking around in the night and there was also no air conditioning. The man at the front desk was abrupt and unhelpfull. They got our order wrong but we were told they had no other rooms available and if we didn't like our room we should leave. Thanks god we only speant one night there! good central location though!

If You Don't Mind Roughing It

Posted Jun 28, 2008
This hotel is fine if you're just looking for a relatively cheap place to sleep and nothing else, although sleeping can be hard with noise from the nearby nightclub and fire alarms going off. The rooms are extremely basic, although you do get a tv, but my remote didn't work. Breakfast was better than the average fare in such cheap hotels in a pleasant little dining room. Best thing about the hotel is the location: just 2 minutes from the station and 2 minutes to the main square; place de la comedie.
