The b&b we stayed was absolutely a perfect 1899 home. From the original wooden floors to the beautiful attic bedroom and bath.
The only thing we wished for was more readily refreshments. (Water, soda, juice etc.
The couple who own and run this b&b were charming and helpful when asked what the area had to offer. Shared best restaurants.....

My group had a total of four rooms booked for three nights. Most of us found the facilities a bit low-end, but the linens were very clean. The beds were saggy and squeaky, but usable. One of the rooms did not have a heater, despite the 40 degree morning temperatures. We were off-season and had not paid a lot, so this was to be expected. The staff, however, was incredibly solicitous to us. On our second morning, my 86yo father had taken a shower, losing a scab on his forehead. They would not allow us to continue our morning without putting on Neosporin and a new bandage. The last day two of us had a rather late check out, and they were very accommodating.
Their main ice machine was not working, but each morning they filled my small cooler with ice so that we could have cold beverages and snacks for the sightseeing trips.

The Hotel Alex Johnson is a nice hotel with a lot of history. The room we stayed in was remodeled in a modern style, very nice and clean. However, my husband and I ate at a restaurant in Rapid City that evening and both got food poisoning. After a terrible night, I went downstairs to the front desk and asked if they had a little store or vending machine where we could buy medicine to calm the stomach. The gal at the desk said that they had medicines at the little store (The Mercantile) right off of the lobby, but it was closed on Sundays. It happened to be Sunday so we were out of luck. I was surprised that it was closed on Sundays since weekends are a busy time for hotels. Other than that we would recommend a stay at the hotel.

The hotel lobby is very warm and well decorated for the season. Business center is convenient. Hotel room is nice, especially the bath tub shower room. Wow! There are even two pillows either soft or hard well marked for us to choose.
