Great location to visit Pompeii ruins

Posted Jan 3, 2016
Pros: Location and friendly staff
Cons: Softer bed and feather pillows
Stayed for 6 nights and great location. Hotel is very clean and staff go out of their way to help. The rooms are clean and adequate (we stayed in the economy rooms) although the bed was not the most comfortable and very hot even with the heater turned off - couldn't open the door to the balcony as too noisy outside.

Excellent Hotel

Posted Dec 13, 2015
Pros: Cleanliness , efficiency, proximity to ruins, railways stations and bus links.
Cons: Can't think of anything at the moment!
Location: Excellent location. 2 min walk to entrance of ruins. Train stations x 2 within 20 min walk in both directions. Bus stop to Mount Vesuvius across road.
We stayed in Pompeii the first week in December to celebrate my 50th birthday and to fulfill a long ambition to visit the archaeological site. My partner had initially chosen another hotel but after a bit more research and on gut instinct we went for Hotel Forum, I'm glad we did! Pre holiday emails enquiring about availability of a taxi from the airport were dealt with efficiently and promptly by the hotel. (The hotel is about 25 mins drive from Naples). The hotel looks clean and appealing from the outside and has a "classical" feeling to it to suit it's proximity to the world famous historical site (the side entrance to to which by the way is situated literally across the road. Beat the crowds by using this one!) The hotel has a large attractive courtyard style garden peppered with citrus trees laden with fruit (some of the lemons were the size of rugby balls!). The main foyer is bright and appealing and we were dealt with quickly and efficiently by the gentleman on duty and supplied with a room key in less than a couple of minutes. The package we booked included a "standard" double room so I wasn't expecting much, but again we were pleasantly surprised. We were given a top floor room at he back of the hotel facing the garden and featuring a balcony with a stunning view in the distance towards the mountains. The room itself was quite small but we'll serviced. Plenty of wardrobe space and a nicely featured bathroom cleaned to a hIgh standard every day. Excellent stay!!!

Nice hotel right in the middle of everything!

Posted Dec 7, 2015
Pros: Very clean.
Cons: Too hot with no individual controls. Sleep all night with the window open in the winter time.
Location: Perfectly located in the middle of the city and three blocks from the Pompeii historical site.
Great hotel, outstanding staff with a central location to the local sites and activities.

One of the nicest places to stay in Pompeii

Posted Nov 25, 2015
Pros: Staff, location, courtyard setting.
Cons: Need to deal with the noise and heating/cooling issues.
Location: The hotel is right in the middle of town and across the road from the second entrance to Pompeii excavation site. Lots of restaurants are close by.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Forum hotel even though it was plagued with minor problems. Rooms were good, staff were great and proximity to the excavations was a real plus. Hiccups included: the person showing us to our rooms got lost. We spent time going around in circles and between floors - not easy with several suitcases and multiple levels per floor. The aircon did not work in my room. The temperature became unbearable - this was in November. As it faced the noisy main road, opening a window was not an option. When asked, Reception staff explained there is only one system for heating and cooling. It is changed over when the weather changes and had already been turned to heating so, even though the weather had warmed up, the system was still set on heat. There was an issue with noise: construction work started around 8am each morning with hammering and drilling. On enquiry we were told that this was nothing to do with the hotel but involved a separate business within the building. They had no control over it and had suffered with noise for much of the year. We were offered a change of room but declined. After our comments, the staff tried to control the starting time of the work so it was not so much of a nuisance. Throughout, the staff were pleasant and helpful and responded well. Food was good though the dinner menu is limited. Breakfast was plentiful. In spite of all the issues we enjoyed our stay and would visit this hotel again.

Eh

The staff was pleasant, however, the pictures on hotels.com did not match pictures of the room. We did not know our room would be unrenovated, and the neighborhood was uncomfortable. Not impressive.
