Well located for viewing the old town

Posted Dec 11, 2017
Staff were very accommodating. We were able to check in four hours early and the room seemed to be an upgrade. It’s a shame there was no tea or coffee making facilities, but all items in the room fridge and cabinet were only 1euro each. We didn’t have breakfast in the hotel as it was too pricey, but coffee shop just outside hotel.

Very nice service

The staff is very helpful and I found the bed very comfortable. It was not hard like a lot of European beds can be. More like what I have at home.

Newly Remodeled Hotel near shopping & restaurants

Posted Oct 19, 2017
Pros: The room is very clean, and the staff is very helpful and professional
Location: Restaurants, coffee shops nearby as well as shopping. Currently there are a lot of homeless people nearby and also lots of construction
Extremely friendly and helpful staff, this hotel is newly remodeled. It is a little pricey for its location, as it is about 20 minutes away from the English Gardens. However, there are lots of restaurants not far from the hotel, and the shopping is very close too. The room is very comfortable, with plenty of room for two or three people in the room. The bathroom is big, with a nice shower.

Dear Alex, Thank you for this fine review for our Excelsior by Geisel. Your kind words for our staff are very much appreciated and I have gladly forwarded them. Luckily most of the constructions are finally coming to an end. Our own works are besides some minor works on the new extension of our Vinothek nearly finished and the neighbours are scheduled to open on November 3rd so that this site will be calm and better looking by then as well. Only the roadside construction will still cause road blockings throughout November but the worst part of this is said to be finished already as well. Whenever your travels lead you back to Munich we hope to welcome you again! Until then we remain with best regards, Isabelle Hein (Quality Manager) and the team of the Excelsior by Geisel

Generally, the Excelsior is a good hotel. Only, we were supposed to stay for four nights, but there was construction all around. Judging by the website, the Excelsior is located at the Schuetzenstr, which is a pedestrian zone (which I knew). However, that side of the hotel was under renovation and the only rooms available were facing Bayerstr. which is also under reconstruction with traffic jams and the accompanying noise level. The option was a room towards the courtyard. Even there carpenters had rigged their machines for the renovation at the hotel. In all we had bad luck. The staff was very nice and commendable and they have arranged to transfer us to their other sister hotel where we did have a great experience and friendly service. We were very happy about that and would certainly like to come back to either house. The location close to the main railway station is not very desirable but very central and convenient. In summary, we just had the bad luck to be in the hotel while under renovation and the streets also under reconstruction.

Dear Gerd, Thank you for taking a moment to share your experience of our Excelsior by Geisel online. We are both happy and sorry at the same time. Happy you describe us despite of the modernisation works so friendly and that this gave you the opportunity to have a nice time in our sister hotel Königshof, whilst sorry that there were inconveniences at all. It is my pleasure to inform you that we are in the process of furnishing the rooms again and ending the works within a weeks’ time. We hope to have the pleasure of welcoming you again in our Excelsior by Geisel and provide you with more tranquillity and comfort. Kind regards, Isabelle Hein (Quality Manager) and the team of the Excelsior by Geisel

Good spot!

Posted Sep 1, 2017
Pros: Near Bahnhof which is sometimes a bad thing, but this hotel is a pearl. Just two blocks from Munich Altstadt--the Medieval part of town. Good spot!
Trying to find a hotel in a foreign country can be a sketchy thing. But our experience at Excelsior way excellent. Great hotel, friendly staff, perfect location.

Great hotel that Is under renovation

Posted Aug 5, 2017 on Hotels
The hotel staff is friendly and accommodating. They cannot do enough for you. The interior and exterior of the hotel are undergoing renovations as is much of the city of Munich. Our room was clean and large and newly renovated. If you are arriving by train, the hotel is a quick walk from the central train station. If you are arriving by car or cab, good luck as the front of the hotel is not accessible by car and the renovations make it difficult to find the front entrance. Also, as there's is much road work in the area, navigating by car is a nightmare with a trip around the block being a 20 minute adventure. Right now, Munich traffic makes Manhattan traffic look like a walk in the park. It seems that much of the city of Munich is under renovation. A few months from now, this will all be cleared.

Dear Jospeh, Thank you very much for this great review of our Excelsior by Geisel. We are very happy you had a great stay in our Alpine suite and appreciate your kind words for our team. We all certainly agree that driving is not much fun currently in Munich, but luckily once you managed to weave your way through our city traffic there’s no further need for a car here in the city centre. We would love to welcome you soon again and remain with kindest regards, Isabelle Hein (Quality Manager) and the team of the Excelsior by Geisel

Excellent hotel. Superior staff.

Posted Jul 23, 2017 on Orbitz
Pros: Staff. Location. Great mix of old and new
Cons: Bathroom fans - but really. It was an excellent stay
Location: Very close to main train station. Excellent breakfast buffet. Augustiner for local food. Be sure to go inside and look at the light fixtures. Anna's
Alpine room was very well done and comfortable. Overall I felt the hotel is doing a wonderful job blending old world charm with modern amenities. The staff was without doubt one of the finest my wife and I have dealt with in the EU or the state's. Josep in particular was very personable while maintaining the utmost in professional decorum. A 30 second walk to access an escalator to Munich main train station was a huge plus. Several excellent restaurants within an easy walk. Highly recommend the Augistiner. The Victulla market is a must visit for a light meal and a beer in the garden. Go to the Houphbrough house for a beer. We did not get acceptable service there but perhaps it was an exception and not the norm. In closing this hotel and its staff are like family immediately after introductions. Good family not the drunk uncle who ruins a holiday. Forgive the spelling errors

Dear CHRIS, Thank you very much for the excellent comment for our Hotel Excelsior. We are very happy that you enjoyed your time in Munich from A –Z not at least due to our team and the comfort of our hotel with its Alpine rooms. A special thanks is for mentioning Jossip. Loving his job is what makes him so good at doing it and seeing compliments like yours is of course a fantastic motivation. We also appreciate your other hints for fellow travelers and do agree, the lightning in the anna is quite special and the Augustiner is a good address for real Bavarian food. When visiting Munich, the Viktualien Markt and a hop into the Hofbräuhaus are indeed worth a look. As Munich and its surroundings have lots to offer, we hope to have the pleasure of welcoming you soon again for some more discoveries. Kind regards, Isabelle Hein (Quality Manager) and the team of the Hotel Excelsior
