Lots of minor niggles

Whilst this hotel was undoubtedly very well decorated with funky rooms, artwork and a pool like something from Tomb Raider we were somewhat disappointed overall. The wifi didn't work very well at all, the TVs remote control also didn't work and the bathroom had a very odd see-through wall arrangement which my husband and I hated. We were only given one small 500 ml bottle of water a day and there was no night time turn down service which meant we had to use wet towels in the morning. This hotel was not cheap and I would have expected a bit more generousity in the minor included extras. We did eat in the restaurant once which was very good as was the bar and the staff were all very polite and helpful. We didn't try the 38 Euro a head breakfast! Not sure if I would stay there again despite it being a clean modern hotel with a cool pool.

Wonderful hotel walking distance to everything

We had a wonderful two week stay. The proximity to the main train station made it so easy to do day trips and the hotel is walking distance to the city center and the park. The staff is very friendly and helpful. We didn't get to try the spa but it looked lovely. I was traveling alone with my two children and they provided us with an extra bed at no extra charge. It was very clean and quiet , too. We would definitely stay here again when we return.

Great Hotel

Pros: Location, Cleanliness, Great Staff
Location: Located at the main train station
The hotel is located at the main train station in Munich. It was very convenient for catching the trains & subway. A couple of our tours started at the train station so this made it very convenient. The train station is a great place to get something to eat and they do have a grocery store on the bottom level. The hotel & hotel staff were great! We were able to check-in early as we arrived in Munich around 10am. The room was clean and in good condition. We had an issue with the tv not working and they sent a technician up immediately to fix the problem. They stored our bags after we checked out so we could continue exploring Munich. Never disappointed with a Sofitel!

Fabulous hotel, great location

Make sure you include breakfast in the rate, it's a tremendous buffet. The pool is very exotic, the Spa is world class. Our suite was a duplex with extraordinary comfort space and views. One and a half baths, that were very tailored and beautiful. The bar and terrace are very handsome, perfect place for your Aperol Spritz or Hugo (elderberry infused cocktail) while watching life slowly unfold. Marienplatz is a hop skimp and a jump with its extraordinary Carrillo.

Weekend in Munich

My girlfriend and I stayed at the Sofitel for a weekend while traveling through Europe. Very clean room. Friendly staff. Location is excellent being a short walk from the train station. The conceirge recommended an outstanding meal at a nearby restaurant, Weinhaus Neuner. Bavarian dishes but a little more upscale and great ambiance. If you want an authentic beer hall experience go to Augustiner Braustuben which is a short walk away. A lot less tourists than Hofbrauhaus and better food.

Excellent hotel, with one problem

The Sofitel is a modern hotel inside an older structure which once served as the central postal building. For those who are allergic to modern hotel architecture, this may well be a prime case for how well old and new may blend together. The hotel is very conveniently located next to the central station - indeed, if you arrive from the airport by the S-Bahn or by train from somewhere else, you are about 200 meters from the hotel entrance. Although the street in front of the station can feel a little seedy at night, the location is still excellent with the main city attractions being within a brisk 20-minute walk from the hotel. The standard rooms (such as all those on the 6th floor where we stayed) tend to be on the smaller size, but are very functional and well-appointed. The service we received by the staff was excellent and the breakfast was fine. The only blemish (and it ended up being substantial enough to affect our rating) was that the hotel has a little-publicized rule of not allowing kids at the pool after 5p (no mention of this rule is made in the hotel directory and we were not informed of it when we called to confirm the pool hours). The staff was apologetic, but we did feel inconvenienced after a long-day of sightseeing.

Great place

Very friendly welcome by staff who are also happy to give recommendations on places to visit. Modern facilities with Nespresso machine and kettle in room. Location perfect to explore city with excellent train connections.
