very old hotel. Requires major renovation.

Posted Feb 25, 2017
Pros: Location & parking stalls.
Cons: Everything else.
Location: Convenient to waterfront & Tim Horton.
The pillows were thin & shabby with the bed springs squeaking badly. The shower stall needs replacement. The floor squeaked bad when the above tenant walked around at night.

Good downtown location

Posted Dec 21, 2016
Rooms were clean, beds comfortable and the staff was helpful. If it were summer the outdoor pool would have been nice to use. The television was old, and did not have a guide feature to see what programs were on - that is definitely in need of updating. I would recommend having more than two tea bags for those of us who are tea drinkers. Nice that they were able to provide and kettle and there was a fridge.

Good Day Thank you very much for your feedback with regards to your stay at the Howard Johnson Harbourside Hotel Nanaimo. I am so very sorry that there was not a TV guide in your guest room during your stay. Thank you about the number of tea bags supplied in the guest rooms, and we will be looking at a better way to provide more amenities in the guest room Regards Erik Brook Manager of Operations

Dumpy Hotel

Posted Dec 13, 2016
Pros: Nothing comes to mind
Cons: All of the above
Location: Nothing special and nothing to talk about
Booking online can be so deceiving. With words like "Do you want a room pool side" in the winter you are thinking that would be nice - well it would be if the pool is a indoor pool which they never mention once - so misleading because it is a outdoor pool with no sauna or world pool or steam room or weight room. It is a real eye sore. It is too old, too outdated and needs either thousands of dollars in upgrades or just bull doze down and start from new. The paint is all peeling off outside and inside everything is outdated especially the indoor/outdoor carpet - how clean is that. No perks at all, no continental breakfast or area for one and the owners/caretakers (older couple) are uninterested and way too lethargic to run a business. The rooms are dingy with old drapery and bedding, fan doesn't work in the bathroom and the TV's are ancient. Definitely not worth the price you have to pay to stay here. And don't let the word "Harbourside" fool you either because its tucked into the side of a hill and the Harbour is far from it and doesn't have a view at all. Won't be staying at anymore "Howard Johnson Hotel" ever again. This was my second time being disappointed with them and two strikes and your out.

Good Day Bern, I am so very sorry we did not meet your expectations. The hotel is an older property, but the staff take great pride in providing clean and comfortable accommodation and good service and value price. With an older property we have the central vent system in the bathrooms where the fans are located on the roof of the hotel offering a continuous venting of the bathroom. I am so very sorry that you did not visit the 8,000 square foot Harbour City Fitness Facility in our hotel. They offer numerous work out stations and equipment. With our downtown location, the hotel sits along the Milestone River and the harbour with the seawall walkway. This is located just down from the lobby entrance to a paved pathway under the Pearson bridge to the Maffeo Sutton Park situated on the inner harbour. As noted on Expedia we do not offer continential breakfast or do we have a restaurant. Thank you very much for your feedback. I have sent your comments to our owner. Erik Brook Manager of Operations

Hotel needs updating

Posted Dec 12, 2016
Staff is awesome, but the hotel could use a bit of a lift, CRT TVs in rooms, conventional keys, the hotel itself looks like frozen in the 70s. For what i saw, it should be offered to no more than $70, in my opinion.

Stayed during first snowfall of the year. ToOk until 10:00pm for the room to warm up enough to take my coat off (and I like my room cool when I sleep).

Good Day I am so very sorry your heater was not working in your guest room. The front desk staff are on duty 24 hours per day to assist all guests with any issue that may occur during their stay. Having a cold room is not that great of an experience and I am so very sorry that we were not able to assist you. The heaters normally can make the room very toasty and warm. Good Day Thank you for taking the time to post your comments on Expedia about your recent stay at the Howard Johnson Harbourside Hotel Nanaimo. We are an older hotel, and the drain plugs are built in the tub, there is a small lever on the main faucet to pull foward to activate the plug. We will certainlly check the bed and have it replaced, as we are continuously replacing beds in our hotel. Thank you again Sincerely Erik Brook Manager of Operations

For the age of the hotel ( built in 1960) the rooms were very clean, comfortable and what I remember from staying here 30 years ago. I would definitely stay here again and would definitely recommend it!!!!

it is an older hotel, but very well maintained. The cleanliness of the room and bathroom was excellent..The staff were super helpful, I didn't bring my charger for my phone, and the one clerk who was on Scott..offered to charge my phone for me. Those sort of things are remembered. We would stay there again..good rate $86.00.. Overall excellent experience

Clean, good location, excellent staff

Older hotel but clean. No unpleasant odours from carpet that you might expect from older building. Close to some good restaurants and fast-food places. On main street but was quiet in the room. For the price it was great value. I was there on business and would stay there again.
