This historic city has a majestic square leading to museums, the town hall and many acres of parkland.

Nancy is a city in northeastern France packed with museums, monuments and parks. Many travelers visit the city in order to see its most famous central square, a large plaza with antique structures that connects the city to the old town. Nancy is also known for its arts scene and education in the school of Art Nouveau.

Make your way to Place Stanislas in the city center. The spacious square, known as “Place Stan” by locals, is a UNESCO site. Stroll through the pleasant park in its pedestrianized area. Admire multiple fountains and majestic golden gates. The central statue is Stanislaw Leszczynski, a former Polish king responsible for the square’s design.

Visit the Nancy Hôtel de Ville along one side of Place Stanislas. Take a guided tour of the grand structure that is used as the Town Hall. See the impressive ballroom. The giant structure is illuminated in the evening.

On the other side of Place Stanislas, locate the Musée des Beaux-Arts, which is housed in an 18th-century building. Peruse art spanning over seven centuries. Pieces by Picasso, Monet, Rodin and among many others are featured.

Spend the day at Parc de la Pépinière, which borders Place Stanislas. Stroll around 57 acres (23.1 hectares) of picturesque, green parkland.

Visit the Musée de l’Ecole de Nancy to appreciate artworks by local artists. Stroll through well-kept gardens with ponds and various styles of horticulture. Marvel at collections of art dedicated to Nancy’s “Art Nouveau” movement.

Bring the kids to see marine life at the Musée Aquarium de Nancy. Join a guided tour and enjoy the temporary exhibitions.

Take a bus or taxi to see the Montsec American Monument just outside Nancy. Experience a somber moment as you remember those who lost their lives fighting in World War I.

Nancy is less than a two hour drive from Luxembourg, Germany, and just a little further to Reims, France.
