Beautiful Chateau and winery dating from the 1880s. Stop by to sample some really great wines, or book ahead to schedule a tour.
Rope-selling entrepreneur Alfred Tubbs built the Chateau as the centerpiece of a 254-acre vineyard and winery operation. The winery grew to become the seventh largest in Napa Valley before Prohibition put an end to wine production.
In 1958 the property was sold to a retired Chinese electrical engineer, who enhanced the grounds by digging out a lake and adding Chinese landscaping.
Eventually the estate ended up in the hands of Jim Barrett, who modernized the winery's equipment and replanted the vineyards with Cabernet Sauvignon.
While waiting for the new vines to mature, Barrett purchased premium Chardonnay grapes from the Valley and began making wine. His 1973 wine won a blind-tasting showdown between French and California wines, putting the entire California wine industry on the world map. For a somewhat fictionalized account of this tasting, check out the movie Bottle Shock.
Today the vineyards and winemaking operation are run by Jim's son Bo.
#Architecture Book the estate tour and enjoy the wine while wandering the garden and vineyard. Tours are limited to 8 guests and last about and hour and a half, during which you'll taste four wines, including the wonderful Estate Cab Sauv. They also let us try the grapes straight off the vine, and they were surprisingly delicious (late season - probably not so tasty earlier in the year).
Although the Chateau was built in the 1880s, the gardens and lake weren't added until the 1950s, when retired electrical engineer Yort Wing Frank bought the estate, excavated Jade Lake, and transformed the property with Chinese landscaping. Today the lake is considered one of Napa Valley's most beautiful sanctuaries. It's a castle winery in Napa Valley The wine that put California wine on the map. In 1976, this Chardonnay from Chateau Montelena won first place in a blind tasting of French and California wines (by French judges), shocking the wine world and proving that it was possible to make great wine outside the bounds of Europe. The movie Bottle Shock tells the story of this winery and the events surrounding the Paris tasting (with a bit of artistic license). Most beautiful castle in California..with amazing garden!! You get to drink wine...in a CASTLE! If that isn't reason enough to visit this gorgeous winery, I don't know what is! Oh yea, the wine is delicious too. ;) A lovely day to sample wines and enjoy the castle grounds. A must visit when in Napa Valley. #weekendgetaway and there should be a #wine category on Trover too. 😎🍷😎 The grounds of this vineyard are amazing, rows and rows of grapevines with the mountains as a backdrop. We had an amazing time at Napa valley tasting wines and walking the properties and grounds. The main building on this vineyard looks and feels just like a castle, the tours and wine tasting are a little more expensive than others vineyards but you do get a castle. Well worth the visit. View from inside Castello di Amorosa winery in Napa . Taste the Fantasia The grounds of the winery Entrance way into the main building, it has everything a castle should have, a moat, drawbridge and a iron drop gate. And it's a modern (compared with real castles) day winery. The vineyard is a little commercial but is beautiful

Beautiful castle located at Napa valley,California..also famous for wine testing...with beautiful sculptures and architectural and as well very beautiful mountain scenic view!!!!!.. Miniature world of model railways. #trains #models #hobby A lovely day trip to wine taste and picnic at a castle in a vineyard. Somewhat abandoned cemetery in Calistoga, Ca. It can be tricky to park so be careful. This beautiful winery is my absolute favorite. The wine is not sold in stores so you will have to visit to sample some (or order through their website) and it is delicious! You can take a tour through this 13th century Tuscan style castle complete with drawbridge, moat and dungeon. This winery is family friendly and kids will enjoy seeing the animals wandering the grounds. Half castle, half winery. Kind of produces a castle you're half impressed by and wine you're half impressed by. #lifeatexpedia Most beautiful castle in California..this place is famous for wine testing and beautiful scenic view of mountain and grapes valley..also can be view castle tour .. Weekend wine tasting in Napa! #SpringFun My attempt at some star trails with some of the vineyard in the foreground. #BvSAstro Napa Valley. Not much of a wine person but this is a good place to check out.. At first I was like Not a government park and geyser which erupts every half hour, is not as spectacular as Yellowstone's geyser. However, entry fee also includes farm with fainting goats and alpacas and you can have a picnic here. #Blue #WeekendGetaway #hiking #SpringFun #roadtrip #Colorful #EndlessSummer #Green #TakeAHike It was a spring day, not particularly hot, only in the high 60s, but the decor on this deck at the Indian Springs made it look and feel like a hot summer. It couldn't be more perfect to dive right in the hot spring mineral bath. An amazing winery we visited in Napa that was authentically built and inspired by a 13th century Tuscan castle. It really is a must see in Napa and the wine is really good as well! Highly recommend this winery tour in Napa Valley, California. Although I was too young to try the wine, the grape juice was the best I've had! Also, this view is amazing. I can't wait to go back. #SpringFun #Napa #WineTasting A beautiful castle to tour while wine tasting in Napa Valley Castello di Amorosa has lots of blooms to enjoy. Sip a little wine, stroll the beautiful grounds and learn about Napa Valley Wines. #weekendgetaway Vines at Chateau Montelena, known for winning the 1976 'Judgment of Paris' in the Chardonnay category and helping to introduce the world to California wine. While the tasting fee is the most expensive I've encountered ($20), this was by far the best winery we visited in Napa. Really good wine, and a pourer who was a UC Davis student and happy to answer any questions we had. Visit to the 1976 Beautiful Castello di Amorosa in Calistoga Very nice Chateau Biking along some of the roads to catch gorgeous views of the vineyards and mountains. Do the tour! See second biggest geyser in USA and farm of fainting goats and alpacas on way to touring Sonoma wine country. #WeekendGetaway #roadtrip Worth going to see didn't do the tour but still impressive from the outside. World famous Napa valley. This geyser is one of 3 in the world that consistently spouts. Some nearby trails, a petrified forest approximately 4 miles away and some roads to bike and tour... but most of all nestled in a beautiful valley that is world famous for its wines Castello Amorosa is a Castle and a winery, Calistoga California All those vines! #Patterns #NapaValley Do the tour! Wine for sale...$3500 per bottle! Somewhat abandoned cemetery in Calistoga, Ca. It can be tricky to park so be careful. #weekendgetaway
A great weekend getaway is certainly Napa Valley. We like Sterling Vineyards because of the fab wine, of course. But, we also enjoyed the beautiful view from the top of the hill. An aerial tram takes you on a short ride up the hill, which is a novel concept in Napa. Calistoga... One of the dearest towns I have ever visited. I could just imagine the generations of families that passed through this charming place, with the locals smiling at their joy.
#napavalley #california #calistoga #neon #retro Bottle Shock anyone ? Somewhat abandoned cemetery in Calistoga, Ca. It can be tricky to park so be careful. Wine Tasting on New Year's day in Napa Valley. This Tuscan inspired castle is a gem and a must to visit when in Napa Valley.
