In the late 1700s, this little tavern in New Orleans was the base of operations for Jean Lafitte, a pirate, spy and celebrated hero of the Battle of New Orleans. Jean Lafitte’s Blacksmith Shop still stands today as a revered bar on Bourbon Street in New Orleans’ French Quarter. The story of Lafitte may be held together with a few admitted embellishments, but that story continues to be told today in his favorite watering hole and the oldest bar in the American South. The graves in New Orleans are above ground due to the water level as this city is below sea level. The rising water level beneath the ground caused the coffins to literally force their way out of the soil.
View of St. Louis Cathedral from Jackson Square #TroveOnTuesday It is so beautiful out there. French quarter in NOLA. Enjoy live music in the streets This is the absolute best place for beignets, the original Cafe Du Monde, New Orleans. My favorite walking path in NOLA❣️#Green Currently in New Orleans for the first time and had the most amazing beignets for breakfast. #foodiefinds #sweetspot I'm not usually a big museum fan... but this one was pretty awesome! Lots of sights & SO MUCH history, WW2 survivors frequently volunteer and share their stories :) A+ One of the cargo ships out of the thousands that navigates the Mississippi river coming from the Gulf of Mexico to the Port of New Orleans. The port is also home to several cruise lines that serves millions of passengers every year. St. Charles Avenue, Garden District, New Orleans... Go for a walk, the street cars are often over crowded... many great secrets await. The French Quarter, Nawlins. One of the prettiest buildings in New Orleans. Crawfish Boil! By the fire department on Decatur. I love this sign. All over NOLA are these bittersweet remnants of days past. Coffee, crepe and email. My mobile office for the next hour. Endymion Extravaganza Mardi Gras 2014 Andrew Jackson Monument in Jackson Square, New Orleans Jackson Square is chock full of history and puts you right in the famous French Quarter. Took this shot with my back to the river and facing the Cathedral. Many street musicians perform near the square. Great place for people watching.
New Orleans is such an exciting and interesting place. I had not been in many years and really enjoyed being with my daughter there in late November 2015.
#neworleans #NOLA #jacksonsquare #frenchquarter Just a sausage, shrimp, and chicken creole alfredo. Basically low country heaven in a bowl.
It was hard to order here, everything looked amazing. The cruise ship I was on took more than 7 hours to navigate the Mississippi River before getting out to the open sea, the Gulf of Mexico. Talk about Nature's gifts...This was a stunning find. We looked like miniscule little beings sitting beneath it, basking under its protective canopy.
Here's the story of this Grandmother Tree.
Great place to take pictures. Try doing a tour, lots of history. Bourbon Street The St. Louis Cathedral is an iconic part of New Orleans. It's close to the water, and you can always get great pictures. Make sure to stop by Cafe Du Monde for a beignet when you're finished! #frenchquarter #nola #lifeatexpedia The downtown skyline amidst a brewing winter rain shower in the afternoon. Next to Lake Pontchartrain in New Orleans Beignets from Cafe Du Monde in New Orleans. The original French Market coffee stand serving French doughnuts since 1860.... They taste like thick funnel cakes. This One of the best cities for architecture is New Orleans. The city takes you back to an old America; back to when jazz was being played at every night club. If you want to beat the crowd at cafe du monde, go around 8pm. It's usually empty... or at 3am since it is open 24 hours. #stunningstructures Delicious bakery and creamery on Magazine street- famous for shopping. Bought 8 of these babies! Driving down Poydras St. Loved this zoo. Took the trolley to the Park and then walked through it to the zoo. Very nice half day activity when the weather is good.

This is the beignet to die for when in the French Quarter area in New Orleans. I find this beignet better than the one where tourist flock and the wait line is ridiculous. Beignets are fried square shaped doughs and dusted with powder sugar. Shops in the French Quarter Best Charbroiled Oysters EVER!!! Topped with bleu cheese.......
#nola #dragos My all-time fav bar in the world. Finally got back to NOLA to post it on Trover. Killer funk and jazz bands play in the small tin-ceiling slot that runs along side the bar. Pool table and tropical patio out back to relax and chat. Bands play 10 - 4a most nights. Band schedule: http://www.mapleleafbar.com/ Bring me back! With Mardi Gras so close I can't help but feel homesick for this city that I've only had the pleasure of visiting. The colors of the buildings alone make you feel alive! There is something to be said about New Orleans mornings in late May. The air is wet, muggy, and clings to you like a shirt. It becomes cool at night and a breeze helps you relax. But soon day begins with glorious brightness. The sun is strong and beats down on you.
If you get up at seven, most of the city is still cleaning up from the night before. This isn't a place for early risers unless you want to see the buildings and homes without swarms of tourists getting in the way. But breakfast can be had. Quietly, with thought and introspection, with people watching and listening to birds singing their praise of a new day. The street cleaners wash the streets, the store managers sweep their sidewalks, the smell of coffee and breakfast foods fill the air, and you will catch yourself wishing you could live in this moment repeatedly.
#neworleans #morning #thoughts #earlymorning #breakfast I think there are two times everyone should visit New Orleans: during Mardi Gras and not during Mardi Gras. You get two completely different experiences and they are both different kinds of fun. Cafe du Monde is a must! Best brunch in town! Try the turtle soup!! Bourbon Street in New Orleans, Louisiana, USA.
This street has it all in terms of entertainment. Bars, live music, restaurants, bright lights, loud sounds, colorful characters, and some seediness.
Great food in many places, nice drinks too. There are plenty of street performers to keep you entertained as well. Quintessential New Orleans building in the French quarter Sometimes the simplest looking dishes are the best. Mother's for just about anything is great but this Shrimp and Oyster Po'Boy is so worth the wait! The best place to drink a hurricane! Outside or in the dueling pianos bar! History of medical equipment #NewOrleans #Louisiana #FrenchQuarter #architecture #BestOf5 If you are looking for a market experience in NOLA, opt for the Frenchmen Art Market instead of the French Market. The trams give you the perfect opportunity to tour the city and connects multiple districts. Don't just stick to the French Quarter, get out and explore more of NOLA. Moss covered trees in Audubon Park - NOLA How often do you catch a shot with no cars in your pic? French Quarter One of many reasons I love New Orleans: a city with its own background music. Here, a street band invites a special guest musician. French Quarter Liked the entrance Canal Nawlins' If you are in New Orleans and want to see more than the tourist filled streets of the French Quarter. Swing by and rent a bike. Larry had great bikes and gave us suggestions for a full day tour. Incredible neighborhoods, shops, ferry boat ride, parks... Must do!! Easily one of the most photogenic of spots in the entire city. Sizzling shrimp was sublime in this fancy but approachable little gem. The food was uniformly excellent and I found possibly my favorite cocktail in the world: the Skeleton Key. Rye, ginger beer, lemon juice, and bitters. Perfect Jazz Fest warm up. So many things to do in the Jackson Square area.
