Pool was FREEZING and not usable due to the temperature of the water, even though it was 90 degrees outside. Room was nice, on the first day water bottles, pralines left on the nightstands. After that nothing. The beds were just made and towels replaced. Also they did not mention you had to hike up a huge flight of steep stairs to your room every time you returned. The hotel staff was nice but I would not stay here again.

Amazing stay!Posted Sep 30, 2015
Pros: Architecture, staff, location.
Location: Right by the quarter -- go to Cosimo's!
Caveat: I used to live in New Orleans, about 5 blocks from this hotel on Esplanade. Our stay was perfect. We were in town to be married and this was our "honeymoon hotel" for the wedding night and night after. We got a great jacuzzi room, which was extremely comfortable and just beautiful. The staff was the most accommodating of any hotel I've visited -- they gave us glasses for cocktails and champagne, left us alone when we wanted, and even waited to clean our room until about 5/6:00pm because we were in and out with our "do not disturb" sign up all day. The staff were very happy the whole time, the pool was cleaned twice a day, and the facilities felt safe. I would highly recommend!

Nice hotel in a quiet area.Posted Sep 26, 2015
Pros: Quiet area building is very old with some good architecture
Location: There are some restaurants nearby. It is on one end of the French Quarter but is only a 10 minute walk to all of the restaurants and music
Staff was very helpful in explaining some of the tours that were available and setting up the tours that we wanted to go on.

Old Mansion on the Edge of French QuarterPosted Aug 29, 2015
Pros: Proximity to French Quarter and Frenchman Street. Ambiance.
Location: As mentioned before, explore the French Quarter. Go to Frenchman Street.
I stayed there for two nights and have no complaints. Admittedly I did not spend a lot of time in the hotel but that is because it is close to the fun parts of NOLA. It's about a 15 minute walk to the busy part of Bourbon Street, 10 to Andrew Jackson square. For me that is not a drawback, it is a feature. It's interesting to walk through the french quarter and look at all the old shops and architecture. The hotel is also a 5 min walk to Frenchmen Street, where you can see some real New Orleans jazz and food. As for the hotel itself, it is an old 19th century mansion. Or at least looks like one, the interior has a pretty modern feel. They serve wine and cheese ever day at 4:30 and the overall ambiance feels very New Orleans. The uber driver that dropped me off told me that "Brad and Angelina" own a mansion on the same street but not sure if that is true or just rumor.

Melrose MansionPosted Jul 14, 2015 on Hotels
Stayed here one night. Really nice older building that has been renovated. The check in is a little confusing and they leave you guessing alot as to what to do. Once the front desk person got with us it was fine but there is little signage up and since this is an older building its not set up like your typical hotel. You have to accept a few inconveniences since this is an older building. Elevator is very slow and eventually you will have to carry your bags up some steps to get to your room. The wine and cheese in the evenings and breakfast in the mornings are simple but nice. Pool area is very cool. It's located on the edge of the quieter edge of the Quarter. Excellent restaurant/music Buffa's is next door and another excellent restaurant Port O' Call is across the street. If the management would make check in a little less confusing and put at least some signage out side of the hotel(we past it twice not sure if it was the hotle or not) it would be helpful. All in all its a nice place in a nice neighborhood with excellent customer service. A few small improvements would make it a 5*.
