Bait and switch

I had stayed at this hotel before so i decided to come back for my 50th bday. I booked a corner room (which i had had before) and they told me the hotel was over booked and put me in a much smaller room. (The room door almost touched the bed when it swung it, it was so small. )
I pointed out that the room I had already paid for in advance was more expensive than the one they put me in. At first, they just said, "take it up with Marriott."
After much arguing, i was moved to a slightly larger room, which had two windows the size of basement cellar windows and were frosted so you couldn't see out...so much for the "corner room with city view" that I paid for.
Didn't seem to care that this trip was very important to me or that I arrived 3 hours before checkin time to let them know i was there, still stuck me in the small room. Told me to take it up with Expedia if I didnt like it.
I won't say it ruined my birthday trip, but it took something away from a trip i had long planned and waited for .
