Pictures cannot do this place justice! My wife and I decided to take a last minute vacation with some friends to New Orleans in the heat of the summer to escape the monotony of our home town and the Covid crisis. Boy were we in for a treat. This historic 4 BR, 3 bath in the heart of historic Treme brings 19th century New Orleans to life, but with all of the ultra modern amenities you would expect from a newly renovated townhome. Vibrant colors and perfectly manicured landscaping on the outside; 14 foot ceilings, transom windows, antique furniture, and unbelievable (and huge) bathrooms on the inside. The number of whimsical nooks to sit and converse with friends makes this place our most memorable rental to date.
The place is super clean, both inside and out, and the owners were gracious and accommodating with the booking arrangements.
My group spent the mornings sipping coffee in the 1830’s era kitchen with suspended staircase, the afternoons drinking rum and floating in the pool/hot tub, the evenings dining in the Bywater and Uptown restaurants (the owners had spot-on recommendations), and the late nights (this is Nola after all) lounging and laughing in the poolside cabana.
For those not familiar with Treme or the HBO series, I recommend reading up on it before traveling to New Orleans. It is a fabulous old neighborhood 5 blocks from the French Quarter that is in the middle of an urban renaissance. Plenty of charming architecture, with coffee shops and grocery stores within a block’s walk. I highly recommend the breakfast sandwich and expresso at Fatma’s Cozy Corner 2 houses away.
If you are lucky enough, you may be able to catch one of NOLA’s authentic “second line” parades. They sometimes form just up the street from the house for weddings, funerals and other lively occasions. You have to witness one to truly appreciate the soul of this wonderful neighborhood.
