Lovely hotel in a quiet area & great location

Posted Oct 3, 2017
Gorgeous boutique hotel in a quiet location which is only 15 minutes walk from the city centre and castle. A great choice for peace and quiet after a day in the city and the convenience of all the city's attractions

Hotel at residential area

Hotel at residential area, cozy and quite, old building with no elevator. It is a little too far to walk to city center.

Overall good experience

Posted Aug 28, 2017
Pros: Quiet area, charming hotel, still close to nice walking area; good restaurant; we appreciated the small bottle of whisky & the jacuzzi in the room
Cons: Hotel has 2 entrances without a real lobby : but difficult to improve! Also there was no lift for the room; Rooms just right for a family
Location: Far from the noisy & busy part of downtown ; Close to Stockbridge , and the green parks : Inverleith Park and the Royal Botanic Garden
Overall nice stay & nice staff & good restaurant.

Thank you for your feedback it is good to see you enjoyed our location. As a listed and protected building we are not allowed to change the structure of our building and therefore do not have an elevator for the same reason sometimes the layout of our rooms is a little different. We certainly look forward to welcoming you back. Chris and the Nira Caledonia team.

Beautiful Hotel

Posted Aug 7, 2017
Pros: The intimacy, staff and decor
Location: Nearby is Stockbridge worth a visit, then all shops of New Town and further up the history and buzz of Old Town. Loads to do.
Beautiful Hotel set in a quiet road in New Town, spread over two Town Houses one of which has the Restaurant/ Bar and reception in. If you are looking for somewhere to retreat from the hustle and bustle of the shops and attractions then this is perfect. If you want to be in the midst of the action then you may find this too quiet. The staff are fantastic they are warm friendly and very helpful. The breakfast is wonderful served in a small intimate restaurant with a buffet continental breakfast and waiter service for the hot food. The hotel does not have any other facilities however its charm more than makes up for that. It is a good hearty walk up to the Edinburgh Castle which takes around 35mins but is all up hill!! A taxi will take you there for just under £10 but the traffic can be bad and like us you may find yourself stuck in traffic, paying for the taxi and walking anyway!!

Beautiful hotel in classic New Town townhouse.

Posted Jul 22, 2017
Pros: Friendly, helpful staff. Beautifully appointed and comfortable room. Great breakfast. Cons: No real lobby space. Most rooms require use of stairs and uphill walk to get to the historic town center. Immediate neighborhood is all residential and a bit austere. Discovered nice, lower key shops and eateries just downhill to the north. Had a fantastic visit to the Botanical Garden away from the crowds.

Not a Luxury Hotel

Posted Jul 19, 2017 on Hotels
Tiny, tiny room, nowhere to sit or layout suitcases, bathroom needed repairs, stifling hot, no aircon or ventilation, up 3 flights narrow stairs, bed too small, walk to another building in rain for breakfast. Nothing luxurious except the price. Outrageously over priced and promoted. I've stayed in better backpackers. One star maximum.

Mostly good, has some issues

Posted Jul 10, 2017 on Hotels
THE GOOD Wake up call was on time. Room was comfy, fashionable, and felt upscale. Dinner- didn't really explain package until bill came. Turned out all right, but we were nervous. Steak was over cooked, but rest was very tasty. The staff was very helpful and nice. THE BAD The petit rooms are so small that to get from one side of the bed to the other, you have to climb across the mattress. Sodas in mini fridge require bottle opener, but they don't supply one. Shower is one of those half glass walls, gets water everywhere. Cable tv did not work. We got dinner with our hotel package, and staff were reluctant to explain exactly what that meant until the bill came. Luckily it worked out that we owed a small amount, but there was some anxiety until that point. Were we ordering too much? The power outlet in the bathroom didn't fit their supplied hair dryer or any of my adapters. Had to blow dry hair using coffee outlet in bedroom.

The hotel staff is so nice, since need to late check in ( almost mid-night) and sent the email for the request, and I was even receiving email to remind the stay..Great service and beautiful hotel. Will go back.

Beautiful boutique hotel close to city centre

Posted Jun 28, 2017
Great hotel and certainly recommended but likely not suitable to anyone who has difficulty with stairs. Suspect the expedia discounted room was not their usual 5 star room standard though - up 3 long flights of stairs and basically in the roof with lots of beams jutting out at head height and below.

Dear Guest, Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback on your recent stay with us. I am very glad to hear that you have enjoyed your time at Nira Caledonia. As a listed building of historical importance, we are regrettably unable to install any lifts however all of the team are on hand 24 hours a day for assistance with luggage or other items. This does also mean that our rooms are all varying shapes and sizes, as each is styled uniquely - however, all rooms are to the same standards. We hope to see you again soon. Warm regards, Jordan and the Nira Caledonia Team

Great spot in Edinburgh

Posted Jun 6, 2017 on Hotels
Outstanding location--very European in style, so be prepared for limited bathroom space and amenities, towels, etc. however, staff is outstanding-- concierge Zoltan is terrific as was George and all the other staff we encountered. Would definitely return:: For older visitors, a low floor is a must--in elevators!
