Not as expected!
The hotel was supposed to be in a central location but it was 12 minutes walk to the shops and then a further 12 minutes walk to the bars, so it was too much effort to go out for a beer and something to eat on Saturday night. In cold weather conditions, you really needed to take a taxi everywhere. It was deadly quiet too with no atmosphere. In fact, it was more akin to a gentleman's club, rather than a hotel. But in saying that, the staff were very friendly and nothing was too much trouble. The rooms and bathrooms are very large and very clean, so if you are looking for a quiet hotel, well off the main thoroughfare, it would ideal for you!

Excellent Choice in Edinburgh
Good location in new town. Truly excellent service. We dtsyed in the cottage, which gave is lots of space snd we still enjoyed a good breakfast.

Excellent staff and lovely room
Often there are some good staff in a hotel, it is very rare to find that all staff are so helpful, informative and pleasant however that is what you get at the Howard - well done to them. I was surprised that everyone could be so good, all the time. The room was very nice and you are close to the city centre. We ate in the restaurant for an evening meal and the food was very good, breakfast every morning was great and over the three nights there my wife and I tried most options and they were all good.

Historic Hotel with Character
This hotel sits among brownstones houses and is off the tourist path. Wonderful reception team and great butlers. While the hotel is older, it has historic charm. Breakfast was wonderful with fantastic choices. Rooms are spacious. Hotel is within walking distance of pubs and great restaurants in Stockbridge. Loved the overall experience at this hotel.

Incredibly disappointed
Petit double room was tiny and was not reflective of the pictures on either travel or the hotel websites. Room was tired in terms of decor, furniture and bedding. The bathroom was much the same and even had a rusty/ dirty looking plug hole Not 5, not 4 and not even 3 star I'm afraid. Would not recommend or stay again

Wonderful!
The Howard exceeded our expectations and it is possibly the best hotel experience we have ever had, at least in the top three. The hotel was deluxe without being stuffy, the staff was attentive to our needs and useful in helping us plan activities and dining, and the location was convenient to our interests.

Wonderful trip to Edinburgh
Few days in Edinburgh, staying at The Howard. Would recommend this small, friendly hotel. Staff were all very helpful, room was really comfy, would definitely stay here again.

Lovely people, lovely breakfast, lovely positioning, awful room. Stuck in 1984. 2 single mattresses pused together, faulty lamps with an actual sign on it saying 'faulty lamp, do not use'. Worse thing was a draft that we realised was a broken window payne that when pointed out was duct taped over. Room was generally damp and musty feeling.

Great hotel - real luxury
Went for my girlfriends birthday and stayed in the Heriot room. We used the hotel car park which was included in the price and was a real bonus. The room was very large and comfortable with a large bath and separate shower and luxury toiletries provided. I did think the shower head was almost too big for the shower space but it wasn't a major issue. The staff are excellent throughout being both friendly, professional and are obviously highly trained. Complimentary tea and coffee was available 24/7 as well as complimentary ironing, minor alterations. We enjoyed drinks in the well stocked bar and the delicious ala carte breakfast. In short, it was excellent.

We had a overnight stay booked at the Howard to end our honeymoon. But for us it was unfortunately ruined. Had we known the Lovely fireplace that we paid a premium to enjoy had been disconnected. We would never have stayed here. They should probably update their website to avoid other people wasting the extra money.

Discreet location within a few hundred yards of the main shopping streets for Edinburgh. Old world charm and exceptional customer service. Really can't recommend this place highly enough.

Old fashioned hotel with excellent service.
My wife and I really liked hotel , because it was an 'old fashioned' hotel, large comfortable suite ,good service ,good breakfast , nice bar. It was very handy for the city of Edinburgh. We will use hotel again .Only downside it's a little bit pricey.

Stay at The Howard Hotel
We had a three night stay at The Howard Hotel, we were booked to stay in the petit small room, I phoned up as I was concerned the room might be a bit small for a couple, having read some reviews after booking the room. When we arrived we were upgraded to a larger room which was lovely. Andrew the Head Butler was very welcoming and helpful, I would definitely recommend this hotel.

Enjoyed our stay at the Howard. On arrival, our first impressions were that the receptionist was fairly brusque in her manner but it may have been her way of being efficient. Apart from that everything else was great. We didn't take full advantage of the butler service but all our needs were catered for with the reassurance that nothing was too much trouble. Having tea delivered to the room in the morning took me back to the old days of hotel hospitality. Well done! Our room was comfortable with an amazing bathroom.

Charming, historic building in a great location
We loved our stay at The Howard. It is located in New Town in a 1700's era converted town home. I enjoyed feeling like we were actually living in Edinburgh and not staying at a traditional hotel. The unique aspect of staying at The Howard are the services provided by the butlers. If you would like, they will unpack and repack your clothes, iron your clothes, and bring tea or coffee to your room. The breakfast at the hotel was excellent.

Charming small hotel, with really great staff. The Butlers were always happy to help whether with unpacking, drinks or simply a chat. My room was advertised as one of the "petit" ones - perfect as I was travelling alone but probably a little small for two. The decor was a little dated in places, but in many ways part of the charm. A lovely small hotel in the new town!

Hotel Gem
This is the BEST hotel that I have stayed in, for many years....I do have to stay in various global Hotels for business purposes...The Howard surpasses all of these that I've experienced over the last 10 years...Excellent quality of rooms...I found the quality of the service, focussed around The Butler concept -astounding. I plan to go back there at the earliest opportunity !!

Nice hotel within walking distance
Definitely more of an upscale boutique hotel located in the new town section but still within walking distance of old town. The room and bathroom were huge. Only small miss was the condition of the furniture. It was all good condition, but looked a little old/worn.

the hotel isconvenient and close to centre
very good service and breakfast was good. they make you a pot of tea when you ask for it and bring it to your room. lots of other butler services but i did not use any. near to centre (train station- waverley). i thoroughly recommend it.

Pampering at it's best!
We were pampered from the moment we checked in to the minute we left. I loved the concept of the butlers. They really were at your beck and call! We felt very special and after a very bad experience in London before coming to Edinburgh, it was such a wonderful experience. Reception also went out of their way to help us all throughout our stay. Our family loved The Howard!
