Good location; big rooms, small issues

Posted Sep 4, 2016
Stayed two nights. Very convenient location for getting both uptown to the park and to downtown venues. Less than five minute walk to the subway. Spacious room and bath. Liked that there were no carpets on the floor, clean . Good WiFi. Downsides: half the electrical outlets were loose or didn't work. Old wiring. Very slow elevator. Terrible view of interior building under construction. Twice interrupted by housecleaning, once for wrong room and once for early morning Saturday cleaning. Very pleasant reception staff and nice touch hospitality room on main floor.

Easy access hotel in Korea town

Posted Sep 4, 2016
In Koreatown. Busy area, but close to Penn Station and Subway to Grand Central. Not a luxury hotel, but easy to use as a base if you are mobile and have activities planned in NYC

Recommended Hotel

Pros: The ambience, and size of the rooms.
Cons: Service and check-in process was not as smooth as one would imagine. I booked 6 rooms with explicit instructions and they required ID from all guests.
Location: Close to Korean Town and Big Bus tours. There is a great sushi place 2 doors down!
Although the hotel staff was lacking in the fundamental basics of hospitality, the hotel offered a pleasant stay for my family. Elevators are limited to two that are older and SLOW! The amenities are limited to a small breakfast buffet, fitness centre, and lobby area that has two computers and a coffee machine. Although the coffee / cappuccino machine was down for a day, they quickly had it repaired and running after one day.

Dear Sum Yung Guy, Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts on Expedia about your stay with us. I am sorry to read that the check-in process wasn't faster than you had anticipated. Unfortunately, New York State Law requires us to obtain ID from every guest that checks into our or any New York hotel. I was happy to know that you enjoyed the rest of your stay with us. I hope we will see you again soon!

Nice hotel and great staff, but rooms could use an update. Our floor creaked and the wall paper was pealing, bug overall was very nice.

Great value hotel, close to many attractions

Posted Aug 1, 2016
I enjoyed our two-night stay at the Avalon Hotel. The staff were very personable and quickly checked us in, valet parked our SUV and moved our luggage to our room. At front desk, the young lady who handled our intake was very pleasant and knowledgeable. Our room was clean and spacious. It also matched expectations since it looked as nice as photos of the hotel rooms we saw online. We were on 6th floor and found it to be very quiet. No problems with noise from outdoors or other guests. When we checked out, three different staff members stopped to invite us to stay at the hotel again in the future. This is a nice boutique hotel with personable staff. The Midtown location puts you in the middle of multiple attractions and places to visit. I would stay at the Avalon Hotel again.

Hotel is in very good location. It's only minute to empire state building and restaurants are next to the hotel but I was upset with hotel staff because I paid for 3 night but I missed the flight then I asked for the refund for the day I did not stay. The staff refuse the refund and offer me the discount breakfast and late check out at 2 pm but on the day I check out other staff said I had to check out at 12am because the staff who talked to me did not leave the note to other staff.

Overpriced.....nearly $400 for a room, worthless

Posted Jul 22, 2016
Pros: location and the really nice man who parked our car
Cons: Price - ridiculous for what you get. Upgrade rooms. Ours was dark and depressing and had a view of a stairwell! So they had the black curtains close
Our junior suite room was $385. Checked in and was told since there would be 3 people, it would be an additional $30 plus tax! For a dingy, crappy room that had 2 double beds and a couch! This hotel used to be a wonderful place to stay and reasonable but not anymore. The air conditioning was preset and could not be changed - the room had to be less than 60 degrees. We froze all night. Not impressive at all.
